Pink Shirt Day Information

Let's all play our part in bullying prevention and awareness.

About Pink Shirt day

Pink Shirt Day is a day celebrated during the last Wednesday of the month February, which originally started as a protest against a bullying incident at Central Kings Rural High School in Nova Scotia. On this day, participants wear pink to symbolize a stand against bullying. The original event was organized by David Shepherd, and Travis Price of Berwick, Nova Scotia, who in September of 2007 went on line after a grade 9 student, was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. In response to the bullying, David and Travis began to recruit their friends and classmates in what they dubbed a "sea of pink." The next day, not only were dozens of students wearing the t shirts David and Travis had bought the night before, but hundreds of students showed up in pink outfits of their own, many dressed from head to toe in pink.

Carol Todd

In her life Amanda Todd suffered at the hands of bullies who stalked her and harassed her, in an ordeal that started in cyberspace and continued into the schoolyard. Before she died at the age of 15, Amanda created a video through the use of flash cards, telling of her painful experiences in the hope of saving other youths from the same kind of suffering. Amanda's dream of helping kids is being carried on in the Amanda Todd Legacy, established by her family. This initiative will raise money for anti-bullying education and for support programs to help young people with mental health problems. In this video, Amanda's mother, Carol, talks about the dangers of the internet while also sharing her own personal story.
