Virtual Learning Science 7 April 6th - 9th

April 6 - 9

Hey boys and girls, remember how much fun we hand suspending our stuffies with elastic band determining how far it could bounce!! The next activity is just as much fun.

Build your own prosthetic and test it out.

Imagine that you only have one leg. Design a prosthetic leg using household items.  Test it out!  How do you make it more comfortable? How would it attach to your body?!

Outcomes:

204-7 plan a set of steps to solve a practical problem and to carry out a fair test of a science-related idea 204-8 identify appropriate tools, instruments, and materials to complete their investigations

205-7 record observations using a single word, notes in point form, sentences, and simple diagrams and charts

Targets:

·        I can design and plan their experiment.

·        I can  perform and record my information.

·        I can  analyze my results and communicate my findings by making a diagram.

Activity

·        Design and plan: plan out your steps for your invention.  Draw a picture as a plan or make a list of materials that you will need.

·        Perform and record: Record your data in point form

·        Analyze and Explain:  Answer the following questions:  What worked well?  What were your struggles?  Suggest ways to improve.

·        Communicate:  Draw a picture of your FINAL product or write a paragraph describing your end result.

Adjustments:

Make a model strong enough for your entire family to try it out! J How much weight could it hold before bending? Record your answers. Explain ALL of your findings to your families. J

If you’d like me to see your work, take some pictures and send them to my school email. Kim.cheeseman@nbed.nb.ca . Also, include pictures of your data collecting pages.Good luck!
