Grade 6 LA

Students were working on using figurative language within their writing pieces.Below you will find a PowerPoint of different examples of figuartive language. Review it. Students are beginning to implement figurative language within their writing pieces - and end of grade 6 writing expectation.  Also, students have been working all year on writing complex sentences - a sentence with 27 or more words using a semi-colon to seperat thoughts instead of and or but. This is also an end of grade 6 writing expectation.

Students are to write a story this week, applying both writing stategies listed above. Their story can be created - a narrative - or a retelling of a personal event - or a special moment in their life. Please apply all of the writing traits we apply in class:

  • Content - provide lots of interesting details
  • organization - use paragraphs and tell your story in order
  • word choice - creative and interesting words
  • Voice - I need to hear your voice as I read your story
  • Sentence structure - complex sentence is required
  •                                - ONE or TwO examples of figurative language from the PPT is                                       required
  • Proper punctuation is a must Periods, quotation marks, exclamation marks, question marks

Students are expected to read a minimimum of 15 minutes, each day. When we return to school students will be following more advanced reading strategies using a resource called "notes and notices".
