3rd week of school

students are working on the following:

On Wednesday we will be doing activities most of the day in recognition of Orange Shirt Day.

Math: word problems for adding and subtracting integers, then moving on to multiplying and dividing integers and reviewing the order of operations.

Science: students are going to be developing lab reports for an expirement we started last Friday classifying rocks. This will lead us to further study of rock types in our region and how they got here.

Social studies: students are continuing their introduction to maps, in particular of our region, and some of its key features. This ties very closely with science class, and we are doing them together as much as possible.

English: Please ensure students have books to read in class every day. We do not have D.E.A.R. this year, and students need to have time to read to continue to develop their skills.  On Tuesday students will submit their first formal bit of writing this year: instructional writing- we will be doing more on this text form in the future. We will also be looking at the news from a series of sites from around the world trying to pick out the important parts, and identifying any bias/propaganda stories. On Wednesday we will be watching a documentary on residential schools https://www.aljazeera.com/program/episode/2017/2/3/canadas-dark-secret/?gb=true

Music: we are working towards eventually putting together small groups of students working together to learn songs to play on the ukelele. Our first jam session was not a success due to group size and tuning issues, perhaps this week's will be better.
