St. Stephen High School has seen a significant increase in the use of e-cigarettes and vape products over the last few months. Health Canada states, “Vaping is not harmless.  Vaping nicotine can alter teen brain development.  Yet, Canadian teens are trying vaping products.  Data from a recent Health Canada survey shows that 23% of students in grades 7 – 12 have tried an electronic cigarette.   St. Stephen High School would like to reduce the use of these products with our youth and believe that with more education and consequences for inappropriate use we can start to make change.   In accordance with the New Brunswick Smoke Free Places Act, it is prohibited to smoke or vape on the grounds of a school or in an enclosed public place.  Students caught in violation of this act will be referred to the RCMP with the possibility of being fined $172.50 as well has having the appropriate school consequences assigned. The annual IWK Kids Karnival is being held on Saturday, May 11th at the Garcelon Civic Center, from 11-3.  This event is central to local fundraising efforts and would not be possible without the help of St. Stephen High School student volunteers.  If you are interested in volunteering your time, and having lots of fun in the process, please see Ms. McKnight in room 212. Grade 11 students are selling tickets on a Mother’s Day basket of goodies. Cost $2 per ticket. The basket is in the office if you want to check out what’s in it.  If any grade 11 students have tickets and money to pass in today, they can give it to Mme Wheaton.
