The Harbour View Choral Ensemble is a choir comprised of students, of Harbour View High School. They perform regularly at school functions and at various venues in the area. The choir sings a variety of music from a number of different styles and historic periods. The choir has represented New Brunswick and Canada at various national and international events.

Chess Club 

The Harbour View Chess Club meets on Mondays and Wednesdays at lunch in room 326 during the winter months. Many of our players have taken part in the district, provincial and national Chess Tournaments. Players of all standards are welcome to come along, learn the game and improve their skills. The annual, provincial, competitive drama festival happens each year in May at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Students and teachers are able to direct and/or write one act plays to the festival and perform them at one of two theatres on the campus. Students are adjudicated publicly after the show by people involved in professional theatre and then adjudicated privately where they receive feedback from theatre professionals on various aspects of their shows. Awards are given out at the end of the week by the adjudicators in each theatre. It is a wonderful week for students to see what high schools around the province are doing in their theatres!

Envirothon

Envirothon is a provincial and North American wide academic competition.  Throughout the school year, students increase their knowledge about environmental science topics such as soils, forestry, wildlife and aquatics.  Students in Grade 9 though 12 may participate.  Students compete in teams of five.  Students  attend workshops  and field trips with other students throughout the province.

Freethought

HVHS Freethought is a club that promotes critical thinking. Meetings are held every Thursday at noon in room 204. Through discussion, presentations and readings students are encouraged to arrive at their own opinions on issues relevant to them. Topics discussed include, but are not limited to, alternative medicine, archeology, astrology, astronomy, atheism, Bigfoot, creationism, democracy, homeopathy, pareidolia, skepticism, etc. All opinions are welcome, particularly when they are supported by cogent arguments.

Gay Straight Alliance

The Harbour View High School Gay Straight Alliance is a school based support group for gay,  lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning (GLBTQ) and heterosexual youth.  Its focus is on creating a union of GLBTQ and straight youth that enriches our school community by helping us to learn about each other,  to respect and embrace our differences and to promote an environment that is welcoming and accepting to all.

Library Book Club

HVHS Library promotes the enjoyment of reading by offering a Library Reading Book Club. Student participation in a variety of themed Book Club events is recognized with incentives, rewards, group discussions, and free luncheons. As a non-athletic extra-curricular activity, involvement may be applied toward the White Letter achievement award.

Musical 

Springtime brings our annual musical production to the stage at Harbour View (and sometimes The Imperial Theatre stage!). Rehearsals begin months in advance for this huge undertaking. Teachers, students, parents, and the community are all involved in making this awesome experience a success each year.

Newspaper 

HVHS's student newspaper, Harbour Views, comes out at the beginning of each month. The paper covers various school activities (arts, sports, theatre, choir, etc) as well as highlighting the academic achievements of Harbour View's students. The paper is available in paper form at various locations around Saint John as well as at the school. It is also available online. Newspaper staff meet periodically in Room 309. Renaissance 

HVHS is a Renaissance school. Renaissance is a program supported by Jostens which works to reward student achievements — whether they are academic, extra curricular, or personal. The staff of HVHS strongly believe that recognizing the accomplishments of our students helps to promote the striving for excellence we encourage. Each semester students who have achieved honours or high honours and students recognized as being examples of positive attitude and behaviours are invited to breakfast or a pizza party. They also receive a reward card to be used throughout the school year.

Rowing

The school offers a rowing club for all interested students. This is a fun sport that will also get you into wonderful condition. Everyone that starts rowing on our team is a beginner at, so if you want to have a great new adventure on the river come on out and join the rowing club. The season starts when the ice leaves the river.

Scenes

The tradition of SCENES began many years ago as a fun evening of theatre in the Winter. It began as a venue for student playwrights to showcase their small scenes. Within the past seven years it has evolved into a two nights of one act and short scenes performed by Theatre Arts 120 and various students in the school who want to write, direct, and act in scenes they've written or scenes from other pieces of theatre. It's a great way for students to get their feet wet in all aspects of theatre.

Skiing & Snowboarding

The ski/snowboarding club is open to all students. The club goes to Poley Mountain every Tuesday night for 6 weeks. It is a fantastic time that students love to be part of.  Instruction is included in the package for all skiers each week. So if you are a beginner or already a pro you are welcome to join our ski/snowboard club. The trips start after Christmas Break and continue for 6 weeks.​
