Music:

This is a reminder to Beginner Band: You have practice after school today until 4 30pm. 

Senior Band: You have a band prep in Period 4 today. 


Wellness:

As part of our Let’s Freeze Out the Hurt at QMS we will consider a daily thought to help us better understand more about kindness and respect. Today’s thought is this: “The beauty of anti-racism is that we don't have to pretend to be free of racism to be anti-racist. Anti-racism is the commitment to fight racism wherever we find it, including in ourselves. It is the only way forward.” Please take some time to reflect on this today.

Sports:

The Girls' Softball team will practice today from 3-4. We will keep an eye on weather and make a decision by early afternoon as to whether we will hold practice after school.

Good luck to the Varsity Volleyball teams as they finish off the regular season with away games today. The Varsity Girls travel to HMMS and the Varsity Boys travel to SMS.

Reminder to the JV Boys of your practice today after school 3 – 4:30.

Tomorrow, the JV Boys will play in the semi-finals at HMS. Good luck boys!

Also tomorrow, the Varsity Girls will practice at 6pm.

News from the library- There are a lot of outstanding library books. If you are done reading your book, please return it to the library asap or if you would like to continue reading your book, please stop by the library at morning break or during lunch to renew it. Mrs. Rice is in the library Monday to Wednesday. 

Now that the yearbook has been submitted (be sure to order your copy online!Order your Yearbook here!​), it's time to work on the next project. This announcement is specifically for Grade 8 students. Mme Spinks is asking for ONE toddler / pre-school age photo of each of you to be used in the year end, Grade 8 Slide Show. Please send ONE digital photo to shawna.spinks@nbed.nb.ca before Friday, May 23rd. Please include your name as you wish it to appear on the slide and please watch for a reply. If you do not receive an email reply, the photo was not received.

The Dungeons and Dragons Club will be not meet at lunch today.

Student Volunteers Needed - Quispamsis Elementary School is hosting their 3rd Annual Spring Fling on Friday May 30th. This will be a fun community event with games, face painting, balloon animals and more. They are looking for student volunteers to help run the games. Volunteers will be needed from 5:30-8:00 pm. If anyone is interested in helping out, please email Julie.urquhart@nbed.nb.ca by Friday May 23rd. Volunteers will receive 2 slices of pizza and a drink when they arrive at 5:30pm. Thank you, we hope to see you there!

This is a reminder of Singing Club after school today. As per usual, it ends at 4pm. 

 

This announcement is for Senior Band members: If you have a form for Ms. Rattray, please bring it to the Music room. Also for Senior Band, you have band prep tomorrow in the second half of lunch. 

 

Wellness:

All UBU students are strongly encouraged to attend the meetings this week as the group will be talking about PRIDE week next week and need your help with the special banner we are creating. All are welcome.

 

Now that it is May it is time to begin our Let’s Freeze Out the Hurt at QMS campaign. Please take time to read and consider the posters that are all over the school.

We will be sharing a daily thought to help us better understand more about kindness and respect. Today’s thought is this: The time is always right to do what is right.

Please take some time to reflect on this today.

 

The Let's Freeze Out the Hurt STAFF buttons are here! This year you have a choice of a pin or a magnet or a keychain to hold the button where you want it! Please stop by the office to grab one and wear it throughout the campaign to show your commitment to Freezing Out the Hurt at QMS.

 

Sports:

The Girls' Softball team will practice tomorrow from 3-4. 

On Thursday of last week, the JV Girls volleyball team defeated BMS. Despite the victory, the girls finished just out of a playoff spot, and therefore, are done for the season. All players should be pleased with how much they improved and for the dedication they showed to the team. Stay tuned for an announcement about returning jerseys to Ms. Hannam.

In volleyball action today, the Varsity Girls practice after school today 3 – 4:30. A time change.

Tomorrow, the JV Boys will practice 3 – 4:30 while both Varsity teams play away from QMS. The Varsity Girls play at HMMS and the Varsity Boys play at SMS. Good luck teams!

Matheletes - There will be a brief meeting today during second part of lunch in Mr. Melanson’s room (Room 108) for those students who are signed up for the UNB Math Competition. Please drop by to pick up your permission forms. The competition is this Thursday!

 

Huge congratulations to all of our Regional Heritage Fair participants. Each one showed their true Cougar Pride at UNBSJ last Thursday. Congratulations to Elizabeth R who won 1st place, and Leah P and Zeel P won 2nd for Hampton Ed Center in grade 8. In grade 7, Kaitlyn S and Ava D placed 2nd and, James S and Lachlan D won 1st  for Hampton Ed Center.  Lachlan and James also won the museum trophy, Ava and Kaitlyn won the provincial archives trophy and Elizabeth won the provincial trophy. Fantastic job done by everyone, you should all be very proud.

Music:

These announcements are for Senior Band: You have practice after school today until 4:30pm. If you are not going to be at practice after school for any reason, please see Ms. Rattray for an important form for Band Camp next week. 

Art:

Grade 6 Art & Poster Club meets today after school until 4:00.  This will be your final session to finish up bottle drive posters.


Sports:

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls volleyball team on defeating Hampton Middle School! The team will practice on Tuesday right after school until 4:30pm- not at 6pm- please note that this is a change in time. 

Today, the JV Girls host BMS, and following the game, the Varsity Boys will practice at 6pm.

Reminder for all basketball players to go to Mr. Melanson’s room at lunch time to receive a little treat to celebrate your seasons.

The Girls' Softball list has been posted next to the gym. There will be a short meeting at break time today in Mme Wood's room (#106) to pick up your jersey and athletic form.

A reminder that students are not permitted to travel on any bus other than the one that they have been assigned. If you are going to a friend's house after school, or a location other than your assigned bus stop, you must make alternate arrangements (e.g. drive from parent, or walking). Parents / guardians do not have the authority to allow you to take a different bus. 

A reminder that there are no classes for students tomorrow.

The Varsity Girls volleyball team lost a close match to Hampton Middle school yesterday- the team will travel to Sussex on Monday.

 

Congratulations to the Varsity Boys volleyball team for their victory over HMS yesterday. Great job team!

 

Next volleyball action for our teams is on Monday when the Varsity Girls travel to Sussex and the VB travel to RPS. The JVB will practice on Monday 6 – 7:30pm.

 

Intramural Volleyball:

The Intramurals finals will take place during period 5 today - all are welcome to attend! France will take on Sweden and the winning team will face off against the staff! 

 

Other:

WWE Fans! The group will be meeting in Mrs. Page’s classroom during the second half of lunch. Join the group to discuss Raw, Smackdown and PPV events. All are welcome.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game Club will meet during second half of lunch in M. Le Clair's room. If you are a fan of Pokémon, stop in and check it out!

Three new Math questions are posted across from the gym and are ready to be solved. Answers due by noon today.

Could all Regional Heritage Fair participants ensure they have their forms into Mme. McLean today. 

PRIDE Passes: A grade 8 student stayed back to clean a mess. And a grade 6 student was nominated by a supply teacher because he cleaned up the classroom after everyone left. It’s awesome when guests noticed you doing great things! That’s excellent Cougar Pride!​

Students will receive their report cards at the end of the day. The P5 teacher will hand them to the class that they have.

Congratulations to the Varsity Boys for their straight sets victory over RPS on Friday afternoon. The Varsity Boys play again today after school when they host HMMS. Score keepers are needed for this game so if you can help out, please see Ms. Hannam.

Good luck to the Varsity Girls as they begin their season after school today. The girls travel to RPS for a 4pm match.

The JV Boys will practice from 6 – 7:30pm tonight.

Tomorrow, the JV teams start their season when they visit HMMS at 4pm. Good luck teams!

A note to all JV volleyball players. Please meet Ms. Hannam in the equipment room at the beginning of lunch today so you can receive your uniforms.

Intramural Volleyball: Monday - players and refs come to the gym for second half only. No games first half: Sweden vs Argentina and Germany vs Chile. Refs Parker/Jace/ Aiden/Maggie/Taylor/Hannah

 

The following intramural volleyball teams will move onto quarterfinals tomorrow at lunch: France, Sweden, Jamacia, Brazil, Spain, Germany, England and Mexico. The order will be decided following the games at lunch today. 

 

Other: There will be a meeting tomorrow at 12:10 in Mr. Melanson’s Room ( room 108). For Grade 7 and Grade 8 students interested in registering for the UNB Math Competition.​

Last day for Grade 6 students to submit work for the Exhibition this summer. The art room is reserved at lunch for Gr. 6 students to have their work photographed.

Good luck to the Varsity Boys volleyball team as they host RPS today after school.

Following the game today, the JV Girls will practice.

On Monday, both Varsity teams are in action as the Varsity Girls kick off their season with a game at RPS while the Varsity Boys host HMMS at 4pm. Score keepers are needed for the Varsity Boys game so please sign up if you can!

Following the Varsity Boys game Monday, the JV Boys will practice at 6 pm.

The signup sheet for Girls Softball is still posted outside the gym. If you are interested in playing, please signup today. Forming a team will depend on having enough girls interested in playing.

Sports:

Congratulations to the Varsity Boys volleyball team for their 5 set victory over Sussex Middle yesterday! The boys won the final set 15-10 to secure the win. Great first game by all players. The team plays here again tomorrow against RPS. No volleyball today but the JV Girls team will practice tomorrow, following the boys game.

Attention Girls' Softball players: Anyone interested in playing softball this year, can sign up on the sheet outside of the gym today. This is for INTEREST only. If enough girls are interested, tryouts will be scheduled at the end of the April.

A message for staff who hand out the hot lunches in classrooms. If a student who ordered a lunch from the cafeteria is absent, please send the bagged lunch back to the cafeteria. 

And a message for students, if you bring your lunch from home, please remember to pack your own forks and spoons. The cafeteria is not responsible to supply you with cutlery for the meals you bring from home.


Music:

Art:

Any Grade 6 student interested in submitting artwork to be displayed at the Saint John Exhibition this summer should pick up a permission form in the art room this week.  Spaces are limited, so get your artwork and completed permission form in early. Also, this week the art room is reserved for Gr. 6 students interested in getting their artwork photographed (before you take it home!) for the end-of-year talent show.

Sports:

Today, Varsity Boys Volleyball team practices 4:30 – 6 and the JV Girls practice 6 – 7:30pm. Varsity Boys players are to meet Ms. Hannam in the equipment room during first half of lunch TODAY to receive your uniforms.

Tomorrow, the Varsity Boys play their first game of the season when they host SMS at 4pm. Following the game, the Varsity Girls will practice 6 – 7:30.

Reminder for those interested in score keeping for volleyball games, please sign up outside the gym – games start this week and score keepers are needed!

PRIDE Passes: A grade 6 girls helped to put the chairs up at the end of the day and a grade 8 boy returns the lunch tray regularly.

Many thanks to our QMS Connections parents who set up the hot chocolate this morning! We hope it made for a positive and warm start to your day!

This morning, select students will be displaying their Heritage Fair projects in the cafeteria. We have several guests in to judge the projects, thank you to each of you for coming in today! Projects will remain set up all day so that classes can come down in the afternoon to see them. Spots still available on the signup sheet in the office. A reminder to grade 6s, you will eat in your classes today because of the Heritage Fair. Today, all grades should send someone down to pick up the hot lunch orders.

Wellness:

Grit Group Gr. 6 (French HRs): Your meeting is during Period 4 this afternoon.

AND don't forget that UBU QMS meets in the Wellness Centre at 12:10 today. Everyone is welcome!

Tech:

The Tech Room is CLOSED today at lunch. This includes the hallway by the Lego wall.

This announcement is for all Senior Band members:  Please be at today's rehearsal after school, it ends at 4:30pm.


Art:

This is a reminder that there will be NO Art & Poster Club after school today.  However, would all Grade 6 Art & Poster Club members please attend a BRIEF meeting in the art room at 12:10 today.  We will be taking a group photo for the yearbook, then you will head outside so please bring along your coats, etc.

The Art Room will be open only for Grade 6 students to work on their covered bridge drawings.
