Through your support with our February Fundraising, we were able to raise $4160.00 for UNICEF for the Coronavirus Children's Crisis Appeal. Our donation will help UNICEF deliver life-saving medicine, nutritious food, and vaccines. This is part of our goal as we try to become a designated UNESCO school. Thank you for your unbelievable support!!
Attached to this email is our School’s March Newsletter. Please take the time to read through.
From Mr. Shea: Guidance
The LES Lions have been practicing how to use their WITS during the winter of 2021!  Our kids understand that THEY are in charge of their reactions, when someone bothers them or they get upset, and that there are many ways to get help when we feel overwhelmed. A big thanks goes out to Cst. Ryan Walker of the KV police force for being our WITS community representative.
Check out our Pink Shirt Day video where all the lions stand together, representing how we stand up for each other when there are conflicts or bullying situations:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFq_0MsacfY

Looking forward, we will be reviewing the Zones of Regulation and the strategies students can use to calm down and "get back to green", when they are upset.  Here's a video from the creator of "zones" about how families can make their own "check in" system to facilitate communication when we're at home ... these days, a little more often than usual!   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l07xlKoNYEE

Leah Kuypers (author of Zones of Regulation) and her family created a short video to help kids at home put together their own Zones of Regulation Check-In for families. Handouts mentioned in the video available via Zones of Regulation www.zonesofregulation.com or through Social Thinking's website along with other home lessons and activities ...

Lakefield students celebrate using their WITS, managing reactions and standing up for each other on Pink Shirt Day in 2021. Great work everyone!

Family Fun Fit Challenge starts today so ensure your child has brought home their tracking sheet. Fill out activities that you and the family do for the month and return to the school to be entered into the draw at the end of the month. Thanks, Mr. Kelley, for organizing and keeping us all healthy and fit!
Although February is the shortest month it sometimes feels like the longest, so we have tried to come up with things for the school to do. Below are the various activities we have happening during the month.

4.     Monday Feb 22nd, Hat Day … your favorite or your most creative.
5.     Tuesday Feb 23rd, Wear School Colors day Blue and Gold (yellow)
6.     Wednesday Feb 24th, PINK Day to show support for anti-bullying – Wear as much pink as you can. Also, Popcorn Sale: $2.00. Bag of popcorn tied with a pink ribbon.

8.     Friday Feb 26th, Beach Day. Come dressed for a day at the beach.

The money raised from our February fundraising project (Valentine Grams, Quarter Drive and Popcorn Sale) will be sent to UNICEF for the Coronavirus Children's Crisis Appeal. Orange Zone: Today K-2 teachers will be sending home extra work in their student’s bookbags. We are just trying to be a bit Pro Active as we remember the confusion from last year’s School Closure. We have not been told to close schools for the moment, but we do need to be ready. Just leave the work in the bookbags until it is needed. Grade 3-5 Teachers are primed and ready to work online with their students at any time and have been working with students and the use of office 365 for some time now. Pray we don’t have to close schools but if we do the educating of students will continue.
