Welcome back to our students for the 2019-2020 school year. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to new students attending our school this year.

I am very excited to return for my second year at this school and my first year as Principal. Summerhill Street Elementary School is an exciting place to be! We are working on many goals in our SIP including Reading Engagement and Science inquiry. We are also working together to make our learning environment as positive as possible by modeling and practicing our 3 stars - Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe.

We have high expectations for our students to work hard every day to meet their personal goals. With a growth mindset, we know that our students can achieve their personal bests even if there are mistakes along with way. We will work together as a school and home team to make this year the best year possible.

I look forward to working with our school community this year.

Mrs. Shannon Atherton

I want to welcome everyone to the 2019-2020 school year, and to express how excited I am to step into the role of Vice-Principal for Summerhill Street Elementary School.  I began my teaching career at Summerhill over a decade ago, and then moved into the Fredericton Education Centre where I taught at the K-2 level for a number of years.  For the past three years, I have had the opportunity to be a Literacy Lead teacher where I got to work with some incredible teachers and students at schools around our school District.
The importance of nurturing positive relationships with children cannot be understated.  The staff of Summerhill Street Elementary School is dedicated to welcoming each student in such a way that they feel valued, comfortable and safe to take risks, make mistakes and thrive in a supportive environment.  I look forward to being part of such an amazing team of educators and staff.
I grew up in a small town where the school was the heart of the community.  I will strive to do what I can to foster the home/school connection and the importance of working together with families to ensure every child reaches his or her full potential.  If you ever have any ideas about enhancing life at our school or if you want to come in and share your experiences or expertise with the students or to volunteer, please reach out.  As well, any questions or concerns are always welcome.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year of working together.
Mrs. Christie Jordan
