Tuesday Night – Pack library books to be sent back Wednesday. 
 
Nightly – read good fit books.  Students now have the option of reading books online on Raz-kids, practice word wall words.
 
Literacy:
 
Word Wall Words:  about, because, him, little, said
 
Word Family:  -ick    How many words can you find that end with ick?
 
Sound Teams:  three letter blends – scr, spl, spr, squ, str
 
Reading strategies:
 
This week we will focus on fluency while we practice reading in phrases instead of word by word.
 
Writing: 
The focus in writing will be on conventions.  Students should be using upper and lower case letters appropriately, spelling word wall words correctly, sounding out unknown words phonetically, consistently using proper end punctuation and finger spaces.
 
Math:
·         We will continue to work with Numbers to 100.  Please practice the following;
o   Counting by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s to 100.  Counting by 10’s to 100 starting ‘off the decade’ (ex: 3, 13, 23…), count by 2’s starting at any even number, counting by 5’s starting with any number ending in 0 or 5, Count by 1’s to 100 forward and backward from different starting points.
o   Say a number and have your child identify if it is odd or ever.  Ask them how they know.
o   Represent numbers to 100 in a variety of ways, numeral, picture, number word, tens and ones.
 
Reminders/Important Dates:
Halloween – Monday Oct. 31 – special math/ literacy activities and shared snack.  Please feel free to send in a healthy snack to share with the class.  We have 16 students.  This activity is optional, so do not feel obligated to send in food if it is at all an inconvenience.  Children are encouraged, but not obligated, to wear orange and black.  No costumes please.
Remembrance Day:  Nov. 11 – No school
Reports Cards Home:  Nov. 18
Parent Teacher Interviews:  Evening of Nov. 24, Morning of Nov. 25 (No school for students)
