Spelling bee date: Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 12:00 PM in gym
 
General Information & Rules:

*  This year’s bee was an open invitation to all students in grades K-5.
*  On the day of the "Bee" all spellers will randomly be assigned a number and will sit in numerical order.
*  The rules of the "Bee" will be explained again to the participants and the audience prior to starting.
*  The spellers will be given their word by the pronouncer. The pronouncer will use the word in a sentence and says the word again. Students are encouraged to repeat their word BEFORE spelling it so that the judges can confirm that the speller has heard the correct word. The speller may ask the pronouncer for the following prior to spelling:
 
 
                           o Repeat the word
                           o Repeat the sentence
 
* Speller spells the word. Once the speller has started spelling the word they may start over as long as they have not finished spelling the word and repeated it. Once they repeat the word at the end of their spelling, they are indicating that they are finished.
 
*  If the speller is correct, the judge will announce that the speller is correct and the speller returns to his or her seat and moves on to the next round.
*  If the speller is incorrect, a bell may be used to indicate an incorrect spelling, the pronouncer gives the correct spelling of the word and the speller returns to their seat. When the round is complete the speller will leave the group and join the audience.
*  Spellers will have a time limit of 60 seconds in which to complete the spelling of the word from the time they indicate to the pronouncer that they understand the word they are to spell.
*  A round is complete when all spellers have had the chance to spell one word. The next round begins with the remaining spellers.
*  If there is a round where all spellers in the round misspell their words, then the spellers in that round remain in the competition and another round begins. If there is a round where all spellers in the round misspell their words, then the spellers in that round remain in the competition and another round begins.
*  The winner of the "Bee" is determined when only one speller in a round correctly spells his / her word.
The winner of the Garden Creek Spelling Bee may qualify for the Regional Spelling Bee in Saint John. The winner of the Garden Creek Spelling Bee may qualify for the Regional Spelling Bee in Saint John.
