Creeker Family Memo # 6 - Monday, September 28th, 2020

Memo for Garden Creek Parents and Guardians

We are moving into the last week of September, already – and what a beauty it is! Thank you to all for your donations for our Terry Fox Walks ( $393 and counting!) . We had a beautiful day for it and hope it had an impact.  Thank you as well for your support  in having your child prepared with drop offs and dismissals – they seem to be moving smoothly and even faster than in the past . 😊

1st Parent School Support Committee this Tuesday – If you would like to find out what our Garden Creek PSSC is all about, please let us know and we will invite you to our first VIRTUAL meeting!  It will take place  this Tuesday at 6:30  on TEAMS.   We are only able to accept 5 new  voting members this year  but all parents are welcome to attend meetings.  We want to hear your voice!

If you are interested in becoming a PSSC member, please contact me  as soon as possible as well as self-nominate using this link:   http://web1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/ASD-W/PSSC/Documents/PSSC%20Nomination%20Form.pdf.

Hope to find out if you are interested!

Orange Shirt Day  this coming Wednesday!  This Wednesday,   students are encouraged to wear orange for Orange Shirt Day, which began in Williams Lake BC in 2013. The goals of this event include: supporting reconciliation, creating awareness of the individual, family, and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to create awareness of the concept of “Every Child Matters”.  We will create awareness over our announcements and teachers may follow up with some read alouds and lessons. More information can be found on the orange shirt day website orangeshirtday.org. The CBC has some child-friendly explanations and resources at https://www.cbc.ca/kidscbc2/the-feed/what-is-orange-shirt-day  or you can check out   https://www.orangeshirtday.org/

Dates Ahead – I am adding in a few dates ahead to Christmas. Of course there will be other dates as we go through the coming couple of months and we will let you know about these and other events as we move ahead. Lots of new ways of thinking about some of our Creeker traditional events in the works!
