Tomorrow students will write a test based on our class novel. Questions they should consider to prepare are:

1. Which character do you think developed the most?

2. Which character in the novel felt the most regret?

3. Why didn’t Lina’s mother take the offer from the NKVD? What may have been different in her life if she had agreed to translate for them?

4. What would the outcome have been if they put the men in the camps and the women and children in prisons?

5. What was the author’s purpose in writing this novel? Do you feel she achieved this purpose?

6. Who is your favorite character and why? Give specific reasons/examples.

7. If you could change/add something to the plot, what would it be? Why?

8. Explain why you think the flashbacks were or weren’t important to the story?

9. What was the message/theme of the novel? Explain.
