Astronomy Week At Rockwood Park

The Sun and the Moon

Although we see them throughout our lifetime, the Sun and the Moon remain a mystery to many of us. Learn how they formed, why they appear the way they do, and what more we can see with binoculars or telescope.
 
The Constellations

To many people the night sky is just a jumble of stars. Discover how to recognize the major constellations visible from New Brunswick, hear the mythology associated with them, and learn what extra sights can be seen within them using binoculars or a telescope.
 
Binoculars and Telescopes for Stargazing
Saturday, April 25; 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm;

Learn what to look for when buying a telescope or binoculars for stargazing and tips on how to use them.
 
The Solar System
Wednesday, April 22; 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm;
Rockwood Park Interpretation Centre
Discover the planets, asteroids, comets and meteors. Learn where and when to find them, their unique features, and how to observe them with binoculars, telescopes or just your eyes.
 
 
Night sky observing with the astronomy club
Friday, April 24; 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm;
Rockwood Park Bark Park (Fisher Lakes entrance)
Join members of the astronomy club to view the Moon, Jupiter, star clusters and other heavenly delights through various telescopes and binoculars (Cloud date: Saturday, April 25 or Sunday, April 26).
 
 
Telescope Clinic
Saturday, April 25; 2:45 pm – 5:00 pm;
Rockwood Park Interpretation Centre
Are you one of the many people who has a telescope but doesn't know how to use it? Members of the astronomy club will be available to answer questions and help you get started.
Space is limited, please call 658-2883 or email connie.browne@saintjohn.ca to reserve a seat for the events taking place in the Interpretation Centre.
Recommended age for presentations is 14+.
