Principal's Message to Families Sept.25/2022

Greetings Hampton Elementary School Families,

Our students continue to live our new Hawk’s Honour Code!

H- Honest           A-Accepting       W-Well-Balanced            K-Kindness

Sept.30th National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - A reminder that on Friday, Sept.30th there are no classes for students as the provincial government had declared September 30th a provincial holiday in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the lost children and survivors of the residential school system, as well as their families and communities. There will be no school for students K-12 next Friday, September 30, 2022. Please find more information here.

Thursday, Sept. 29th is Orange Shirt Day @ HES– Students are invited to wear orange ahead of the national day for Truth and Reconciliation. We will be having a school-wide assembly led by Mrs. Branch (Guidance) and our Grade 5 Hawk Squad student leaders. Mrs. Branch will also be co-teaching activities with our teaching team in classrooms throughout the week in .

School Picture Orders – Please return these to school with your child as soon as possible. Retakes will take place mid-October.

HES Green House – Our greenhouse team invites families to drop off any summer plants, i.e. geraniums to our greenhouse before the onset of frost. Please contact the school at 832-6021 to arrange plant drop off details.

Hawk Squad Student Leaders – We had an overwhelming expression of interest in our student leader teams last week. We will be meeting with our Hawk Squad initially by grade level. Last Friday we met with our grade 5 students who submitted applications. Meetings for our grade 3 and 4 Squads will take place this week and next. Thank you!

Traffic Notes

For students who are driven to school by family/friends (students who don’t take the bus): We invite you to drop off and pick up at the rink parking lot, the same as it has been done for the past 2 years to avoid congestion on School Street.

If dropping off your children at HES in the morning, please proceed just beyond the pilons and please do not turn in to the playground to drop off children. If you must pick up your children after school, please park in the spaces adjacent to the playground.

Please drop students off after 7:50am.

Passing a school bus when the red lights are flashing is a serious offense and may result in a substantial fine. Please remember the speed limit on School Street is 20 kilometers

School Supply and Fee Information - Thank you to families who have paid both the school supply fee and student fee. These can be paid online using cashless schools @ https://asd-s.schoolcashonline.com/

Breakfast Program – Our breakfast program is starting up the first week in October. Forms will be sent home with students this week and are due back at school on Thursday, Sept.29th.

Hot Lunch Programs – Our hot lunch program is starting the first week in October. Our first month of hot lunch will be cheese pizza for $2/slice on Wednesdays; Oct.5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th. Families can purchase hot lunch for the month @ https://asd-s.schoolcashonline.com/ . Orders for October are due on Sunday, October 3rd @ 9am. Please contact the office for alternate payment arrangements @ 832-6021.

Terry Fox Walk – Our whole school Terry Fox walk is rescheduled to Monday, Sept.26th @ 10:45am. We will be walking a route on our trail. Thank you to all who participated in “Toonies for Terry” leading up to our walk.

Thank you and have a good evening!

Ms. Donovan
