H.E.S. Hawk Squawk Nov. 8-12th, 2021

Good morning Hawk families,

Not what we all hoped for, but another week of online learning which was communicated last evening by ASD-South. Thank you to all our school families and students for your patience as we navigate at-home learning together. All classroom teachers are hosting daily team meetings as well as office hours. Most of our teachers are beginning to add in mini-lessons of new content to keep learning moving forward. We recognize this shift to home learning is difficult for families with many children at the elementary level being at daycare or in the care of relatives during the day. Some teachers are recording these sessions so they are available after school hours for families to access on teams. If this is something which would help your family situation, please notify your class teacher and families who do not want their child recorded can turn off their camera for the duration of the call. We do not want to add unnecessary stress so please do only what you can. When paper packages were handed out last week, teachers ensured there was approximately two weeks’ worth of material. We encourage our students to maintain a daily routine for engaging in their academic work as well as reading and time outdoors. This may look different for all family situations.
A reminder that there is no school for students this Thursday, November 11th, as it is Remembrance Day. The preparations for our virtual Remembrance Day ceremony were put on hold with the move to at home learning, however, teachers will be sharing with their students a special Service of Remembrance which was prepared last year for the occasion.
Our Resource teacher team is Mrs. Stewart, Ms. Avery and Mrs. Johnson. They are connecting with students individually or in small group. We also have Mrs. Johnson in the role of Guidance, and she is trying to connect virtually or by phone with individual students. If your child needs a check in, please reach out to one of these staff. We also have Mrs. Henry (Phys.Ed)and Ms. Leblanc (Music) who are providing daily activities on their TEAMS sites. Both are available for virtual teams meetings as well if your child is interested in this support.
Clothing orders are available online but will not be placed until our Administrative Assistant returns.
Thank you once again for your patience, and if you or your child require anything along the way, we would ask that you reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher for support and direction. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in-person as soon as the current situation is resolved.
Mrs. Blanchard
