Information Items:

- Our second visit with our friends from Kings Way Care Centre was a big success. Mrs. Creamer’s grade 2  students greeted the seniors and enjoyed playing various board games with them! Snakes and Ladders was a huge hit! It was wonderful to see the excitement in the eyes of the students as they met their ‘new buddies’ for the first time.  Next week our first group of seniors will be back for our “Young At Heart” joint choir with Mr. McRae’s students.
-We are still in need of a few ElF (Early Literacy Friends) volunteers who provide one on one literacy tutoring to grade two children. Volunteers work two one-hour after school (1:35-2:35) sessions a week for a 10 week block. To learn more about this great initiative or to register to volunteer, visit elfnb.com or call 1-855-898-2533. There is a training session planned for Saint John this week.

-Our “Falcons In the Spotlight” display is continuing to grow. We currently have an article about Cameron and Emmersyn Rouse and Morgan and Sydney Tait who held a bake and lemonade sale this summer for Canadian Cancer Society. We also have an article showing Madison Cumming and Georgia Nice enjoying a nice summer day at Gondola Point Beach.  Lauren Coyle, a former FES student, is currently a very skilled second year striker for the UNBSJ Female Soccer team that did well at a recent tournament. Please continue to send in articles and  newspaper clippings.

-Our Newcomers party is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 14th. It’s a great celebration  where we welcome all students who are new to F.E.S. this school year. We are so excited that they are now part of our wonderful school community.

-Please find attached a copy of our Student Code of Conduct to review with your children.
-Our Fall Fundraiser catalogues will be coming home on Monday. Please share with your friends and family over the Thanksgiving long weekend. All profits will go to the purchase of iPad Minis. We currently have 14 and our goal is to acquire a whole class set of 28. iPads are powerful, versatile tools  that motivate and engage all students.  They come with assistive features (ie. Siri, Dictation, Word Prediction) that have changed the learning landscape for students with special needs.
-   We will be holding Kindergarten Registration for children starting Kindergarten in September 2015 during the week of Oct 14th to the 17th here at the school from 8:00 until 3:15. To register your child, you will need the following: Proof of age, Medicare card and proof of immunization. We will also take registrations on Wednesday evening October 15th from 6:30 until 8 pm for those who are unable to get into the school during the day. If you know of someone who will be coming to school next year, please inform the parents of the Kindergarten registration dates. We will register all students in our current serving area- those who will come to FES next year and those who will be zoned for the new school.
-We have received a $500 grant from Kraft Celebration thanks to the generosity of Matt Burnett and his staff at Superstore. Matt’s store won a contest and chose us as the recipient of the grant. The money will go directly to our playground refurbishment project.
-Our first Santa Claus Parade Committee Meeting will be on Oct. 23th at 7:30. This will be the last year on the committee for many of our current members as their children will be moving on to Middle School or will be rezoned to the new school. We encourage new families to become involved in our parade committee. It is a great way to meet new families and to become part of an award winning group.
- As you are aware, a new Anglophone elementary school is under contruction at 189 Pettingill Rd., Quispamsis, next to Quispamsis Middle School with an anticipated opening in the fall of 2015. The Naming Committee needs the help of the public to name the new school. For more details and to submit your suggestion, please visit the Anglophone South website at http://web1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/ASD-S/Pages/welcome.aspx. The deadline for submitting your suggestions is October 15th.
