Parents play a vital role in the governance of New Brunswick schools, through District Education Councils at the school district level and through Parent School Support Committees at the school level.

The Parent School Support Committees are responsible for:
- participating in the selection of the school principal;
Â
- advising the principal on the establishment, implementation and monitoring of the school improvement plan which may include the school mission, strategies respecting language and culture, communication, school climate, family involvement, conditions to improve the quality of learning within the school, improving school property and facilitating use of the school by the community.Â
Â
The PSSC will also:
- participate in the selection of the vice-principal;
- provide input on the performance evaluation of the principal and vice-principal;Â
Â
- review the school performance reports;
Â
- advise the principal in the development of school policies;
Â
- communicate with the DEC on PSSC issues.Â

Meetings are held at the school as decided by the chairperson. Everyone is welcome to attend.
