Kindergarten Learning

This week, much of our learning focus has centered around Remembrance Day and its significance.  The children learned about the the poppy and that it is a symbol we use to remember many brave men and women who fought to keep our country free.  The children learned about what "FREEDOM" means and they gained a good understanding of the blessings they have because of their freedom.

Math - This week, we continued our Numbers unit by focusing on More, Fewer and Same As.  They had lots of fun exploring this concept together.  Next week, we will continue on with our unit of study by learning about how we represent numbers in many different ways.

You and Your World- We focused on Remembrance Day as well as the many roles that people have in families today.  We will proceed with this unit of study as we compare the roles people have today to the roles people had many many years ago.  I am also planning to introduce a Friendship unit of study, asking, "What does it mean to be a good friend?"  We will discuss choices we make, what kindness looks like in our friendships and how to solve conflict and disagreement peacefully.  I am hopeful that as this unit progresses, the children will be able to transfer this knowledge to their peer relationships in the classroom and on the playground more readily.

Literacy - In addition to our Remembrance Day activities, we learned letters Uu and Ll and continued our focus with rhyme and rhyme awareness and two new sight words were also introduced - that, you.  In writing, we continue to share stories orally and record them using pictures, labels and some basic sentences.  Next week, we will continue our phonics learning with the letters Ll, Ff and Bb, phonemic awareness skill of segmentation will be introduced and we will continue on with our storytelling and recording these stories using pictures, labels and sentences.
