Mr. Squire- As many of you may have heard it is Mr. Squire's last day on Wednesday, January 16th after 28 long years at MAS.  If you see him around next week, be sure to wish him well in Retirement.

Wednesday January 16- STAR student assembly

Thursday January 17- Great Canadian Bagel Hot Lunch. Home and School Meeting 6:15pm. DEC meeting letters to go home.

Friday January 18- Tots N Taters

What we are learning this week:

Literacy: We are continuing to improve our persuasive writing. Students are completing their first piece of persuasive writing and today we began debates. These debates are a fun way for students to back up their opinions with reasons/facts (similar to what they do in persuasive writing). It also helps to practice their speaking and listening among their peers.

Math: In math, we are working on area and perimeter. Right now, we are looking at squares and rectangles but we will move into abnormal shapes as well.

If you have any graph paper at home, takes turns with your child drawing shapes on the graph paper while finding the area and perimeter of the shape.

Science: We will be doing one last fun science experiment with Oobleck (cornstarch and water), on Thursday this week. This will finish off our properties of matter unit. We will be looking at if it is a solid or a liquid by performing various tests.

French: French we are continuing our unit with family/friends and how to describe people (both physical and personality characteristics).

Health-In health we are discussing the effects smoking and other drugs have on your body/health. We will be learning about abuse, misuse, addiction and proper use of legal drugs.

If you have any questions please let me know. Have a wonderful week!
