Week of December 10 - 14, 2018

Hi Everyone!

Well December is here and the room is buzzing with the excitement of the season. Our Elf friend, Elfer (catchy, huh?) arrived on Monday and is watching the children closely so that he can report back to Santa that everyone is remembering to behave properly and working hard.

We are still working on our letters and there are only two more new letter to learn. The Kindergarten children are doing well learning their letters and the sounds that they make. We are working on identifying those sounds at the beginning of words so that we can also write them in our stories. Grade 1 students also practice the letters and make words that have these sounds as well as write sentences with the words in them.

In writing, we are writing about Elfer and his antics. The grade 1 students are working on making sure the words that they have learned on the Word Wall are spelled correctly and remembering to put finger spaces between the words.  Kindergarten students are working on adding some "words" to their writing pieces.

In math, we have reviewed some patterns as well as making equal groups using pictures and the balance scales. We are also covering some very basic addition skills using some manipulatives (hands on materials) to assist. Some of the websites we have used are as follows:

We have a very busy week ahead of this. Tuesday, we will be practicing for the Christmas concert before we head out on the bus to Mactaquac for some wonderful play time and a turkey dinner. If your child will not eat the turkey dinner, please be sure to pack a lunch for them. I have contacted some parents of students that said that would not eat it already.

Wednesday is the concert here at the school at 10:00. doors will open at 9:30 for those that are anxious to get a good seat. Thursday we perform for the residents at York Care Center. This outreach program is so wonderful for both students and residents.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing most of you next week at the Christmas concert.
