Social Skill Lesson of the Week - CALMING DOWN

This morning, Tom and Tabby Cat taught us  various ways we can calm down when feeling scared, angry and frustrated.  Tom Cat gets really upset when he loses a game and today, he had a major tantrum when he lost the video game he was playing.  Tom learned some new strategies to try when he is upset.   Here are some of the strategies we learned we can do when needing to calm down too:

a) Pause and Count to 10 or Count back from 10 to 1.

b) Take deep breaths.  We watched a video about belly breathing and Bee Breaths.  See links below.

Sesame Street Belly Breathe

Go Noodle Bee Breath

c) Think about a happy thought or place to help you calm down.  Please ask your child what happy place or thought they came up with to think about to help them calm down.  They had some insightful ideas.
