Week of October 22 - 26, 2018

Hi Everyone!

We had a great week here in K/1! The children are all learning so much with their classmates both in the classroom and on the playground. We are learning not only new letters and their sounds but how to work with each other.

In literacy we will introduce a couple of new letters to the Kindergarten students as well as review and extend the learning on these letters for the grade ones. We are always writing which helps us tell our stories (the children are always excited to tell me their stories). We are even learning new sight words. This week I will be introducing the new words on, us, up, an, at. Some of these words are repeated from Kindergarten but identifying them right away helps with their reading fluency and writing.

In math, we are working on recognizing a familiar arrangment of objects quickly still and I will be introducing some 2D and 3D shapes this week. For now, we are just sorting them and seeing how some are the same and some are different.

Our purposeful play time is going well and the children are doing very well learning to work with each other and resolving any conflict that they may have. The goal here is that they extend these skills to other areas of their life and are well-equipped to handle the little problems and, eventually, the bigger problems.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs. Penney
