Weekly What’s Up: January 29- February 2,2018

We had another lovely weekend; I hope everyone was able to get out and enjoy the fresh air.

On February 1 we will be going to York Care with our grade 5 buddies.  If you are able to join us (between 10:30 and 12:00) please let me know as we will need a volunteer to go with us.  If you do not have Policy 701, please contact the school for information.  It is a quick online course.
Last week was certainly a mixed up week with storm days and illnesses.  Hopefully we’ll be back to normal this week.
Literacy:   Please remember to record the title of the book that your child reads each night.
Due to the storm days and absences, we didn’t get a chance to finish our independent writing pieces.  We will be writing new pieces this week.  These pieces will be finished and marked this week (hopefully) and will be sent home for you to read and sign next week.  Students continue to work on their personalized word work lessons with Words Their Way.  Our No Excuses words for this week are: about, me, put and very.  These are words that students should be able to read quickly and spell correctly.  Mrs. Burnett showed the class a new to practice our spelling words that gets us up and moving.  Ask your child to teach you how about ‘floaters, swimmers and sinkers.’
Math:  This week’s numbers of the day will be 88-92.
This week we will continue exploring mass and working on addition and subtraction to 20.  Remember to look for real life opportunities to use addition or subtraction!  I will be introducing coins soon.  In our modern world of debit and credit cards children often aren’t familiar with coins so any real world exposure you can provide for them is a great benefit.
