Continuation of Learning

Hello MAS Families. I hope this email finds you healthy and well. By now I am sure you have heard that schools are closed, but that is only the building. The MAS staff is not done the year of learning just yet and are excited to start on a new learning adventure with you and your child.

As you are aware, we are moving to a continuation of learning plan for home. Our MAS teachers are beginning to prepare materials and searching for engaging learning resources suitable for your child and grade level. Teachers will be calling home early this week to find out what is the best approach to learning at home for their students and will do there best to accommodate families. We do realize these are unprecedented times and that families are dealing with different levels of stress and anxiety, so we want to work together.

The focus of our continuation of learning is on Literacy, Numeracy, and Science (gr. 3-5). We also encourage students to continue to read everyday and to get 30 minutes of physical activity.  Our current plan is to send out the upcoming weeks learning plan- Day 1 to Day 5 on Fridays. This plan will be emailed as a PDF and also posted on the teachers page on the school website. It is recommended of an hour of learning a day, but reminder that this is 5 hours for the week and you can be flexible in your approach. As we navigate this new learning adventure together, please do not hesitate to reach out for support, clarification, feedback, etc. The teachers and myself are here to help in anyway possible to make this experience fun and positive. I also invite students to share their learning with their teacher through email with pictures and videos. The teachers would love to provide feedback and praise.

For families that may need support, we are continuing to provide guidance and educational support services to our students. We have three ways for families to communicate any of their concerns. You will notice a form on our school website that can be used to reach out to school staff.  Another way to reach out is to call our school phone number 453-5422 and leave a message or you can reach out through district office line at 461-4100. Please reach out if your child or family would like or is need of any support or help connecting to supports. I can assure you that all sources are confidential.

Starting Monday April 6, we will begin going over all fees submitted for hot lunch, field trips, etc and begin refunding those that have paid through school cashonline.  Chef Roberta with Tot’s N Taters will be etransfering back those that have paid her via etranfer. Those that have paid by cash, we are still working through this and will be in touch with those families. This all may take some time, so please be patient.

Please know that District has created a tab on the ASDW website with all communication and information around Covid19. Also in that Covid19 tab, is a link for other learning resources for Families if you are looking for extensions to learning.

Thank you for all your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. Stay safe and practice social distancing but stay connected!
