Hello MAS Families! It has been an interesting mix of winter weather this week.  On cancelled school days if you are looking for ideas and activities for your child to do,  please keep in mind to check your child's teacher's page on the school website. Great way to fill in some of the time during the day and keep learning going at home.

No School Monday- Reminder there is no school this Monday, January 28th. This is a Professional learning day for teachers. 

Family Literacy Day- Family Literacy Day® is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually on January 27 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. January 27, 2019 is the 20th Anniversary of Family Literacy Day! Please see attachment for fun ideas to do with your family for literacy day. 

Safe Arrival New System-  Just a reminder of the protocol for our safe arrival system now- If your child will be absent from school the number to call is 1-833-294-4838. There is also an app that can be downloaded onto a mobile device. If you do not use the new system to call in and report student absence, you will receive a a phone call from the automated system. 

K-2 Parent Forum-  We are still looking for any parents that would like to join the parent forum. It will be held on Monday, January 28th early evening at the school.  The Researcher with the project is looking to speak to parents and get your input and feedback on the extra hour. Please email or call the school if you are interested.

Breakfast Program-  Tuesday- cereal and fruit smoothie.  When the students arrive at school, if they wish to come have breakfast, please remind them to come in our grade 3-5 door. We will take off our boots, put our coats and book bags in classroom then head down to the gymnasium to enjoy breakfast together. When the bell rings and once students are finished they will head up to class to start their day with full bellies. 

Breakfast Program Volunteers-  We are putting out the call for volunteers for the month of February.  If you can join us one Tuesday morning or more, please let Helga know. We ask volunteers to arrive at school at 7:40am and we are done around 8:30am with clean up. If you have any questions or would like to sign up to help out, please contact Helga (helgarennke@gmail.com). 

Hot lunch Order forms- Please return your order forms to the school on Tuesday, January 29th. 

Skating-  We will be doing a whole school skating trip to Willie O'Ree on March 1st. A notice will be coming home this week. 

Northside School Hockey Night- Our Northside school night with UNB hockey is Saturday, Feb. 9th. We will be sending home information in regards to purchasing tickets at the box office. 

This Week-

Monday January 28- No School for students. Professional learning for Teachers. 

Tuesday January 29- Tots N Taters. Breakfast program 7:50-8:15am. Hot lunch order forms are due. Milk order forms go home.

Wednesday January 30- NBA 2 ball at the Currie Centre for chosen students gr. 3-5. 

Thursday January 31- Great Canadian Bagel Hot Lunch.  

Friday February 1- Tots N Taters.

February 9- UNB Northside Schools Night

February 14- Fruit and Veggie trays for each class. 

February 18- Family Day- no school

February 19- Grade 3/4 visit York Care.

February 22- Grade 4/5 visit York Care. 

February 22- Family Movie Night (save the date) 

February 25-March 1- Another 'Seusstastic' week at MAS with fun activities planned!
