Updates - Late February

All of this information (and more) has appeared on the daily announcements.  Stay tuned each day for the announcements!

Attention grade 10 and 11 students:

There will be a Youth Leadership Training Camp held at Mount Allison University from July 12-19.  The eight day camp is designed to teach leadership and organization through sport and activities.  The core outcome of this camp experience will be growth in personal and interpersonal leadership skills, knowledge and values.  The camp is open to grade 10 and 11 students from each school in New Brunswick.  The Royal Canadian Legion New Brunswick Command sponsors the camp, and is proud to mark this year as the 56th year of operation.  If you are interested, please see guidance for more information.

Attention Grade 12 students:

St. Thomas University is hosting a Winter Open House this Sunday, February 22nd from 2-4 p.m. This is a drop-in style visit where students can learn about admissions and scholarships, residence life, academic departments, athletics, and student services.  There will also be campus tours running throughout the day and a session titled "Funding your Post-Secondary Education." Students can find more details and preregister at ConnectSTU.ca.
Saint Mary’s University will be at the Crowne Plaza Lord Beaverbrook Hotel in Fredericton on Thursday, February 26th at 7pm for a “preparing for university” presentation.  Visit smu.ca for more information.

Mount Saint Vincent University is having a Winter Open House Event on Friday, February 27th.  Register today at msvu.ca/explore

Mount Allison University has a new scholarship called The Joyce Foundation Purdy Crawford Bursary.  This bursary is based on financial need.  Bursary applications are available at mta.ca/scholarships and are due on March 1st.

Grade 12 – SEED (Student Employment and Experience Development Program) forms are available in the guidance office.  The SEED program provides an opportunity for students to have their name registered into a central repository so that employers can easily see that you are looking for summer work.   Registering in this program offers more opportunities to obtain summer employment.
Possibilities include positions within:
Provincial Government Departments or Agencies
Non-profit organizations
Municipalities
First Nations

Attention Grade 12 students:
This is a reminder to you to apply for scholarships at the university or college you plan to attend.  Check the website to see the deadlines for scholarship applications.  If you plan to go to post-secondary school, then apply for scholarships at that post-secondary school.  UNB and Dalhousie has contacted CNHS recently to pass along the following information:
1)    UNB completed some stats and noticed that students with good grades province-wide are not applying for scholarships.  This is your extra nudge to apply. Please see http://www.unb.ca/scholarships/highschool/index.html to fill out the one-page application form that will enter your name for the opportunity to apply for 400 scholarships at UNB and UNBSJ. Deadline is March 1st.
2)    Dalhousie’s scholarship deadline is March 15th. Please visit dal.ca/scholarships for further information and to apply to the general entrance award program and for specific scholarships.
