Update - Nov. 17

We are having so much fun here in grade 1/2! We are learning so many new things and growing our brain everyday.

In math we have started "math work stations". These are areas in the room where students work with a partner on concepts we've already learned. We've been practicing numbers to 100 and 'make 10' addition strategy in lots of different ways. I'll post pictures soon.

We have been talking about our community - including changes in our community and how even children can make changes. We are all excited to visit the village office and learn about how decisions are made. As part of our discussion about community, we have been learning about community helpers and what we want to be when we grow up. Ask your child what I want to be when I grow up. We have been continuing to discuss the fact that we are all unique and have different interests, strengths, etc. and to be respectful of others. Most recently we read a number of books about crayons to develop our understanding.

Most students traded their 'home reading' books today. You may notice that your child has more difficult books in their home reading back. Please remind your child to use their strategies to figure out unknown words, and after reading have your child retell what they read. This will help your child continue to grow as a reader.

Report cards went home today. If you would like to schedule a parent/teacher interview, please contact the school. I am flexible with times if you are unable to attend within the suggested times. If you want to bring your child to the interview, that's fine. They can show you what they've been learning.

As always, don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns.
