Orange Phase Update - Jan. 2021

Hello Anglophone West School District Families,

As of midnight, tonight (Tuesday, January 5, 2021), the entire province will move to the Orange Alert level in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  This has an impact on the provincial school system.  ASD-W remains committed to working closely with Public Health and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to do our best in ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of our students and staff.  We also recognize the importance of continued learning.

The Orange Alert level means staff and students will be required to follow specific safety measures, which include increased mask use at all grade levels.  There will be limits to certain activities.  For example, extra-curricular music activities, such as choir and band, are not permitted in this phase and sports activities are limited to practices within a single team.  Full details of these directives are outlined in the Orange Level Directives for Early Learning and Childcare Facilities and Schools.  This document is found at the following link:  Orange Alert (002).pdf   Please take the time to review this document in full.  If you cannot open the link, please visit our district website (asd-w.nbed.nb.ca) to find the document.

For information on the provincial expectations and standards for the safe operation of our schools during the pandemic, please refer to the "Return to School – Direction for School Districts and Schools" document.  It can be found at this link:

Please continue to be diligent with wearing masks, hand-washing, social distancing and limiting your contacts.  It is through these actions that we can make a huge impact on keeping our community safe.  ASD-W families are a big part of our NB population…we can all contribute to reducing the risk of spreading the virus.

Sincerely,

David McTimoney, Superintendent
