Weekly update

Hi there families:

Say goodbye to January and cruise on into Feb. with a great atitude and enouragement to share with your child.  Now is the time for your student to really dig in and take part and get the most out of their last year at Park Street School! Grade 5 is a big year with a lot of growth and change ahead ... let's push hard trogether through these wintery months - the GOALS are

LEARN LOTS, PRACTICE LOTS, DO GREAT!

Everyone ready? On y va!

  • Until Feb. 21 PSS is raising funds through the Rights Respecting group to suport Haiti in their rebuilding efforts.  Our class already had a PJ Day for $2. Tomorrow we will discuss this week's ideas.  One class is having c razy hair day, another is having shoe-less day .. Keep posted for our next fun idea so that your student can join in the fun for a good cause for only a buck or two.
  • In Literacy and Social studies we are working on writing an adventure story.  We are starting tomorrow with our "mini-aventure" practice. By the end of this week, students will be working in a new writing centre, practicing writing a "mini-aventure". Our goal is for LOTS of solid practice in the writing centre so that later on, students are well-equipped to write a full adventure story all on their own.
  • Tuesday we are fortunate to be celebrating the Chinese New Year with a wonderful celebration in the gymnasium.  Our Grade 5 class is performing the Tai Chi Fan Dance.  It will be great!
  • Tuesday is also library day - please return books.
  • Every Friday I host Yoga Club - if you think your child would be interested or could benefit from some slow-down 'me-time'.. please encourage them to come.  We are breathing and stretching and laughing and feeling great every Friday, second recess in the gym.  Every day I try to teach the kids strategies to help them cope with all that life throws at them, even at their young age, they are stressed and anxious and need support and ways to cope - ALWAYS!  Young or old, taking time to learn how to calm ourselves is the perfect way to help us gain perspective.  Students don't need a mat, just a willing attitude.

Coming up ...Feb. 11 - Awareness assembly

Have a great week!
