Student Council Executive Elections

​Congratulations to all the Park Street Class Reps on being elected to the Student Council. We are looking forward to another exciting school year working together. During our first meeting today, we discussed the timeline and rules for the executive positions. The information is also posted below.

Student Council Executive Roles

President:

  • work with the vice-president and student council advisor (Mlle. Howlett) to prepare meeting agendas
  • act as the Official Student Host/Hostess for Park Street School
  • discuss plans and ideas with Mr. Meesters on behalf of the Student Council
  • speak at school assemblies on behalf of the student body

Vice-President:

  • ​partner with the President to work towards common goals
  • perform duties of the President if they are unable to attend meetings
  • assist in drafting the agenda, heading committees and organizing fundraising events for the student body

Secretary:

  • ​keep permanent records and take attendance during Student Council meetings
  • provide reports at Student Council meetings
  • draft cards and letters on behalf of the Student Council

Treasurer:

  • partner with the Student Council advisor (Mlle. Howlett) to keep a permanent record of all financial transactions, receipts, expenditures and fundraising

Campaign rules:

  • Homemade posters only (maximum of 5 per candidate) – be creative!
  • You may choose to create a short campaign advertisement that can be broadcast on the announcement (maximum 30 seconds)
  • Candidates will have a short speech (1:30 max) to the school videotaped and played on the announcements. You may choose to film at home and bring in a copy, or you can see Mlle Howlett Monday, Sept 26th at second recess to film your video. 
  • Be positive - focus on what you will do, not on what someone else will/won't do
  • Only make promises you can keep
  • Use your talents/skills to get elected, instead of using bribery

Election time-line:

  • ​Candidates will need to tell Mlle Howlett if they intend to run for President, Secretary or Treasurer by Wednesday, September 21st.
  • Campaigning can begin as early as Thursday, September 22nd. 
  • Elections will be held Wednesday, September 28th.
