Les Devoirs - le 19 - 23 septembre
Math Homework:
Students have 4 math sheets to complete this week.
 
Reading Homework:
We have been working on reading with expression and fluency, stopping at periods and at commas.
 
Fluency: What the students can do at home to develop their fluency skills:
This is only a suggestion. You don’t have to do this with your child.
 
1. First, have your child read out-loud with you or with another person to help build their
    fluency skills.
 
2. Next, have your child point out 5 words that they found hard to pronounce, or 5 words
     that they can teach you from their reading.
 
3. Afterwards, have your child decode the 5 words by breaking each word up according to
    sounds they recognize or according to syllables. They are to write these words in their
    reading duo-tang. We have practiced this in class. I have explained what is expected of
    the students.  
 
4. Lastly, have your child reread the text. Practicing the hard words individually and
    decoding them will help your child read them more accurately when they reread the text. 
 
Comprehension: What the students are to do at home to develop their comprehension skills:
This is only a suggestion. You don’t have to do this with your child.
 
     Strategy of the week: searching for words you recognize
 
As students read, they are to search for the words that they understand and use them to help them understand the difficult words.  For example, when a student does not understand a word, I tell them to read the information around it so that they have an idea of what it means.
 
 
Developing Your Vocabulary:
 
Students are to find 10 new words and draw what those words mean or they can use them in a sentence or a SHORT story. They can be as creative as they want to be. This should only take 20 – 30 minutes total. I have explained to the students, especially our class artists, that I am not grading their art work. Instead, I am looking at their understanding of the word through drawing or writing. The point is to build vocabulary and learn new words.
