What is a Community School? Community schools foster relationships with volunteer groups, parents and public, recreational and cultural services. As a result, they become community centres of learning for children, youth, families and communities, before, during and after school hours. A community school creates a new alliance between the school and its community. When a community school is established, the district community schools coordinator works in partnership with the principal to design and implement activities and programs that support the school as a centre for learning. Every community school is different, with programs and initiatives that reflect the community that they serve as well as the interests and passions of the students.
