2023 Leo Hayes High School

Badminton Teams

High School badminton this year runs from February 11th (our first tryouts) until April 22nd at the provincial championships in Moncton.  We will select up to 16 players in each of JV Girls, JV Boys, Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys.  The JV team is for grades 9 and 10, the varsity team is for grades 11 and 12 (though grades 9 and 10 can play up).  There will be 2-3 practices a week and one optional game play night every Sunday.

Important Dates

February 11th – 9:30-11:00 a.m. – both gyms - 1st JV tryouts (guys and girls)

February 12th – 7:30-9:00 p.m. – both gyms - 1st Varsity tryouts (guys and girls), 2nd JV tryouts

April 1st – West Conference Tournament held either at FHS or CDJ in Edmundston

April 15th – Southwest Regional Tournament probably held at LHHS

April 21st, 22nd – Provincials in the Moncton area.

***Important*** If you want to play for the team you MUST be available for those 3 tournament dates.

Have other commitments?

If you like to play badminton and can’t make all of the practices due to other commitments (other sports, band, production, work, etc.)  just let the coaches know.  As long as you can make at least half of the practices and can attend all of the tournaments we’ll consider you for a spot on the team.

Practice Schedule

Expect 2-3 practices per week. The practice schedule will vary depending on available gym time and will be posted weekly.  We will update schedule as more gym information becomes available .  We do have the following times every week during the season:

Every Sat. morning from 9:30-11:00 a.m. – after tryouts all of our teams will practice on Sat. morning.

Every Sunday evening from 7:30-9:00 – after tryouts this is an optional practice just to play games.
