Creeker Memo #4

Happy Monday, Creeker Families! Here are some reminders for the week.

  • Tuesday, September 28th
    • The 1st Parent School Support Committee (PSSC) meeting is taking place virtually at 6:30pm
  • Wednesday, September 29th

    • School Cash closes for Student Fees. Any families requiring financial assistance can contact our school office 453-5409.
    • Orange Shirt Day & Truth and Reconciliation Day
      • This Day is a very important one for our students, our staff, and our community. We plan on hosting a whole-school virtual assembly where we will discuss the importance of the day, share stories, and highlight some important values associated with the day.
      • While it is our full intent to keep the contents of our discussion very much age-appropriate, there is a chance that curiosities may be triggered, and further dialogue is needed. We encourage families to think about how an appropriate conversation may continue at home.
  • Friday, October 1st
    • Creeker Colors Day!!!!!
      • All staff and students are encouraged to wear Green and Yellow to celebrate our first School Spirit Theme Day!
      • We encourage families to tweet @Gardencreekers with the hashtag #CreekerSpirit any pictures of their children sporting Green and Yellow!

Other items

  • Music Upgrades: Our school is hoping to make some upgrades with music equipment. Monetary Donations are welcome. Please contact alex.yaychuk@nbed.nb.ca if interested in supporting!

Creeker Memo #3

Thank you to families for making efforts to have their children exit their vehicles during drop-off from the ‘passenger-side’. Here are a few upcoming reminders for you to be aware of for the coming week.

  • The most recent Memo from the Department of Early Education and Childhood Development can be found on the Anglophone School District West website https://secure1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/ASD-W/Lists/District%20News/DisplayForm.aspx?ID=573&RootFolder=%2Fsites%2FASD%2DW%2FLists%2FDistrict%20News&Source=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure1%2Enbed%2Enb%2Eca%2Fsites%2FASD%2DW%2FPages%2Fdefault%2Easpx
    • Students will be taking part in Physical Education outside as much as possible and will be required to wear masks if indoor classes are being taught
    • At this time, our outdoor recess (early morning drop-off, morning recess, and lunch recess) procedures will not change. If 2 classes are in the gym at the same time, the curtain will be used to separate both classes.
    • Our indoor clubs are to stop for the time being.
    • Our outdoor intramurals are going to take a pause for the time being. We are hoping to get more clarification on whether or not activities such as cross-country and flag football are permitted outdoors.
    • Field trips can take place as long as the numbers of students on the bus are small enough to keep kids sitting with classmates from their ‘bubble class’ and a row of 1 or 2 empty seats separates the class bubbles.
    • Here is an excerpt from the memo regarding bus transportation

“To reduce the risk of transmission on the bus, we are asking parents who are able to do so, to please drive their child to school and help reduce the number of students on the bus to encourage greater physical distancing”

  • Our Lock Down Drill is taking place this Tuesday morning. All students will be receiving additional direction on expectations to complete this drill safely. Teachers have been discussing this and practicing this with their classes! Much like our successful Fire Drill last week, we hope to minimize anxious feelings through practice and discussions!
  • Start-up packages are to be submitted back to your child’s teacher and School Fees are to be completed via School Cash online https://anglophonewest.schoolcashonline.com/ . Any families with financial constraints are encouraged to reach out to the school to discuss available supports.
  • If you have a child who requires a medical/safety plan due to the following, a Policy 704 form needs to completed and submitted to our school. Please notify the office if you require one.
  • Our 1st Hot lunch option will be communicated out very soon. School Cash online will be the preferred method to register for this.
  • Our Parent School Support Committee is finalized and will be meeting frequently throughout the school year to consult on school improvements. Thank you to parents/guardians who expressed interest.

Have a great week everyone!

Creeker Memo #2

I would like to thank you all for your continued patience with our after-school bussing. As our district transportation continue to refine their own routines and routes, I anticipate the wait/drop-off times to continue to improve. Here are a few upcoming reminders for you to be aware of.

  • School Tour Video – For many families, it has been quite some time since you have been inside our building! With that in mind, we have created a virtual school tour which can be accessed here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1N6Oix1GhpA. This video will be available on our school website as well.

  • Grade 3-5 students will be visited by members of the ESTEY Art program Monday afternoon. Information will be shared for any families interested in registering their child for this after-school program. This is set to begin at the end of the month once per week.

  • Due to some excessive rain on Friday, our Fire Drill was postponed and will take place this morning. Prior to the alarm sound, all students will receive important reminders about how to travel safely inside and outside of the building and most importantly, to remain calm when this important procedure is needed. For some, this experience can generate some anxieties. We hope to minimize these feelings through practice and discussions!

  • This Wednesday, September 15th, at 6:30pm our teaching staff will be available for a virtual ‘Meet the Teacher’ welcome. Stay tuned for the invitation coming from your child’s teacher.

  • Start-up packages that were sent home last week with your child are to be completed and submitted back to your child’s teacher. If you have not done so yet, please make this a priority this week as this information is very important for our record system.

  • If you have a child who requires a medical/safety plan due to the following, a Policy 704 form will be sent home to be completed or updated. Please look for it in your child's backpack, sign and return by Wednesday September 15.
    • carries an Epi-Pen
    • takes medication on an on-going basis at school (for example: inhalers, Ritalin)
    • needs immediate care due to a potential life threatening situation or condition
    • ongoing observations for a health condition

  • School Cash online is available for families to pay for student fees https://anglophonewest.schoolcashonline.com/ . If payment by cash or cheque is required, please note that the identical cost from school cash will be needed.

  • We are hoping to start with Pizza as our first Hot lunch option of the school year starting in early October. School Cash online will be the preferred method to register for this. More info to come soon!

  • Garden Creek School will take part in the annual Terry Fox Run again this Friday, September 17th. In order to be allowed to wear a Hat or Pyjamas for the day, students are asked to donate $2 to their child’s teacher. All classes will participate in our school event starting at 1:00 p.m.

  • A memo will be going home about Cross Country Running opportunities for children at the Gr. 3-5 levels. A school wide event has been set for October 6th. Stay tuned for more information.

Getting Ready for a Great Startup!

I hope you are all enjoying these final summer days as we approach the first week of school! Our teachers, custodians, and admin assistants continue to work hard to prepare the school and classrooms for a wonderful year of learning for your children. We are delighted to host our newest Kindergarten Creekers to our school community on September 7th and 8th between 9:00am and 11:00am. Our returning students in Gr. 1-5 will also be beginning their first day of school on September 7th.

This Friday between 2:00pm and 2:30pm, families will be receiving an email from their child’s new teacher welcoming them to the 2021-2022 school year. In that communication, information will be given, questions will be asked, and important reminders will be shared. Among these reminders will be to ensure that your child has indoor sneakers, 2 water bottles (1 stays at school and the other for their bookbag), a packed lunch with snack, 1 mask to wear when entering/exiting our school, and at least one extra mask to leave at school. Extra masks will be available in our office for emergencies. I encourage families to have the following information ready to be shared with their child’s teacher:

For Grade 1-5 students coming to school on September 7th, there will be staff members waiting just outside the entrance doors between 7:40am and 8:10am to welcome your children inside the school and guide them to their assigned classroom. Parents/guardians will be asked to remain outside of the school as part of our mandated COVID protocols from government officials. Dismissal for our Gr. 1 and 2 students will be at 1:50. Students being picked up will exit the school with their teacher and bussing students will begin their routes home or to after-school daycare. Dismissal for our Gr. 3-5 students will be at 3:05.

In the coming days, a newly revised family handbook will be made available on our school website. This document will contain school hours, recess plans, safety protocols, important screening information, and much more. Stay tuned for this important document!

Finally, our ‘Meet the Teacher Night’ is scheduled for September 15th at 6:30pm. Due to COVID restrictions, this will be conducted virtually. You will be receiving more information from your child’s teacher as we approach that night.

The first day of school is an important one for all children to feel safe, cared for, and a sense of belonging. Our staff is so excited to make this year’s first day of school a great one!
