October 16th –Oct. 20th

 Dear Families,

 What we are learning:

The students have began writing personal narratives this week. We have been reviewing the ‘Four W’s’ (who, what, where, when). Next week we will be focusing on a strong lead and how to catch the readers attention! During math we have began our unit on numbers to 1000 and have been reviewing many concepts to help with our addition facts. The students have also been journaling during math and have been doing an excellent job using pictures, numbers and words to solve problems and tell math stories. This was our first week being introduced to New Brunswick during social studies. We have looked at and compared maps of The World, Canada and New Brunswick to help get a sense of just how small our province is! We will be alternating week to week between science and social studies. This week we will continue learning about soils during science class.

However, it would be great if you could all continue practicing at home (number songs, mental math with either cards or dice, pen and paper, flash cards, etc.). We will start multiplication this week! Don't forget, Xtramath is an excellent site to practice the mental math :)

We will continue to learn new vocalary for each units with a lot of songs and activities. We are now working on "winter" and "taking care of yourself".

In English, we are completing our book report and Times project. Most is bullet form information. This week, we will be starting something new "Mindup".
