Dear Families,
I hope you had a great weekend and are ready for another fun week in grade three!  Thank you for all your support!

What we are learning:
Our Balanced Literacy Block, which includes Read to Self – reading good fit books; Work on Writing – about a birthday party; and Word Work – individualized spelling program continues.
In Math, we will work on Numbers to 1000 counting by: 5s, 10s, 25s or 100s.  Comparing and ordering numbers to 1000 and the meaning of place value for numerals to 1000.
In Science, we are completing a Unit on Soils.
In Social Studies, we are learning about the Province of New Brunswick.

Information Items/Dates to Remember:
·         It is very important that you label your child’s jackets, sweaters, coats, shoes, backpack, etc… to help us get lost items of clothing to their rightful owners!  A lost and found box has been set up on the dance floor, so you can check there if your child has lost something.

·         Students visit the Library each Thursday and may take books out to take home or keep at school to read.  All library books need to be returned each Thursday.

·         Please continue to check your child’s hair nightly as there have been cases of lice in our school.

·         Please discuss Fire Safety procedures with your family at home.

·         Howl Fest – Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 4-6pm. Wear your costume and have fun.

·         On Monday, October 31 – the children will be invited to wear orange and black instead of costumes.

·         Picture Retakes – November 4, 2016

·         Remembrance Day – Friday, November 11, 2016 – No School.

·         Report Cards sent home on Monday, November 21, 2016.

Homework
·         Each week, your child will be bringing home books at his/her independent reading level (good fit books). Please make time each night to allow your child to read these to you.  An important component of strengthening your child’s reading skills is regular home reading practice.

·         For some fun math practice at home with your child, continue to practice addition facts by playing a math game - Addition Cross Out and Three in a Row.  Make sure to visit the Xtra Math site.

·         As always if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at school, send a note in your child’s communication bag, or send me an email.
