Weekly News for September 19

Monday, September 19th, 2016

Dear Families,

What beautiful fall weather we have been having! The students worked really hard at school last week and the 2016-17 Murphy Crew is a nice little bunch of learners. Thanks for all you have done to prepare your children for his/her exciting school adventure.

What we are learning:

This week we will be introducing the letter sounds for “T t” and “I i”.  We are also learning the printing strokes “plop (straight line down)”, “vroom (straight line across)”, and “boing”(the curve found in letters like n, m, h, r). In math, we will start a unit on building, naming, and extending patterns of 2 or 3 elements such as red, blue, red, blue, red, blue or dog, cat, chicken, dog, cat, chicken. In you and your world, we will continue to work on the Zones (blue, green, yellow and red) and start talking about using our WITS.

Information Items/Dates to Remember:

·        Scholastic book orders went home today. Please have your orders back by the 28th of September.

·        Communication bags and milk/cafeteria pouches went home today. Please send these back to school every day (even if they are empty). Please check them daily for notes from school.

·        If your child is ordering milk, please write down chocolate or milk. Also, when ordering from the cafeteria, please write down what you would like you child to order and place it in the milk/cafeteria pouch. Thank you for your cooperation.

·        It is very important that you label your child’s jackets, sweaters, coats, shoes, backpack, etc…to help us get lost items of clothing to their rightful owners!

·        Library books will be coming home on Tuesday. Look for them in your child’s book bag. Books are due back on Mondays.

·        Our school’s Terry Fox walk will be held on Thursday, September 29th. We are having a Toonie for Terry campaign at school to raise money for cancer research. Please support this effort if possible.

·        Practice the new letter sounds at home this week—“Tt” and “Ii”.

·        Tuesday is FAVORITE T-SHIRT DAY! Show off your favorite shirt on Tuesday.

·        Please have your child practice printing his/her name using upper and lower case letters.

·        Create patterns with simple objects and home and have your child extend the pattern.

As always if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call me at school, send a note home in your child’s communication bag, or send me an email.
