Dear
Families,
I
hope you had a wonderful weekend and are ready for another busy week in
kindergarten! Thank you for your support
and working to prepare your children for school. The children are settling in
nicely and are beginning to learn our classroom and school routines. I am very proud of the effort they have put
forth so far! Please continue to work on your child’s independence with their
belongings (shoes, jackets) I hope you are able to take in some of the Harvest
Jazz and Blues performances this week.
What we are learning:
This
week we will be introducing the letter sounds for “Ss” and “Aa”. Sight words are words that we practice at
school, which the children should be able to recognize at a glance. The sight word
we will be working on this week is “to”.
In math, we will begin working on a unit on sorting and patterns.
Information Items/Dates to Remember:
·
On Thursday, September 15th we will be
having a presentation on behalf of the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival by
musician John Campbelljohn. Check out his music here: http://www.campbelljohn.ca
·
Our Corn Boil will be held on Tuesday, September
13th. Please note that I will not be here that night as our meet the
teacher was held last Thursday. However, you are more than welcome to come and
have some corn and check out our amazing school.
·
It is very important that you label your child’s
jackets, sweaters, coats, shoes, backpack, etc… to help us get lost items of
clothing to their rightful owners!
·
Communication bags, classroom books, and library
books will not be sent home until the classes have been finalized. Thank you
for your understanding and patience. Until that time, please look for notes in
your child’s bookbag.
Homework
·
Practice the new letter sounds at home this week—“Ss”
and “Aa”.
·
Wednesday is Silly Sock day! Wear your silly socks to school today to help
us learn about the letter S!
·
Friday will be apple day! Send your child with an apple for snack on
Friday. We have apple slicers at school
to make eating apples lots of fun!
·
Please have your child practice my name (Mr.
Murphy)!
·
Your child will be bringing home a book for you to
read to him or her each night this week.
·
Please review basic shapes with your child at
home (circle, square, triangle)
As
always if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call me
at school, send a note home in your child’s communication bag, or send me an
email.
