Dear Families,

I hope you had a terrific weekend and are ready for another wonderful week in grade three!  Make sure your child is dressed warm for the cold weather.  Please make sure we have your correct contact information in the event of an emergency.  Thank you for all your support!

What we are learning:
Our Balanced Literacy Block, which includes Read to Self – reading good fit books; Work on Writing – writing a book nomination; and Word Work – individualized spelling program continues.
In Math, we will be starting a unit on Measurement.  Learning Goals: use different units to measure the passage of time; use a calendar; measure length, width, and height in centimeters (cm) and metres (m); measure perimeter in centimeters and metres; and measure the mass of an object in grams and in kilograms. Students should start to review multiplication facts up to 5x5 as well.
In Science, we will continue working on a Unit on Invisible Forces.
In Social Studies, we are learning about the Province of New Brunswick.

Information Items/Dates to Remember:

·         It is important that you label your child’s jackets, sweaters, coats, shoes, backpack, etc… to help us get lost items of clothing to their rightful owners!  A lost and found box has been set up on the dance floor, so you can check if your child has lost something.
·         Please send extra mittens and socks to keep at school if your child needs a dry pair.
·         Just a reminder that the student fee of $45.00 is needed at school as soon as possible.
·         Students visit the Library each Thursday and may take books out to take home or keep at school to read.  All library books need to be returned each Thursday.
·         French Presentation on Thursday, January 26, 2017.
·         Grade 3 Skating on Thursdays, February 2, 9 and 16, 2017. February 23 – Storm Date for skating if needed.  Please return permission slip as soon as possible.
·         Exchange Valentines on Tuesday, February 14, 2017.  Happy Valentine’s Day!
·         Friday, February 24, 2017 – No school for students. Professional Learning Day for Teachers.

Homework

·         Each week, your child will be bringing home books at his/her independent reading level (good fit books). Please make time each night to allow your child to read these to you.  An important component of strengthening your child’s reading skills is regular home reading practice. Ask your child about what they are reading and have them answer questions.
·         For some fun math practice at home with your child, continue to practice how to measure objects in centimetres (cm) and metres (m) at home.  Make sure to visit the Xtra Math site for practice on basic math facts.
·         As always if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at school, send a note in your child’s communication bag, or send me an email.
