7BC - math and science
General News: First, it was a pleasure meeting many of the families of my Grade 7 students. Thank you for the welcome and I look forward to working with your children for the remainder of the school year. On another note, every Monday at 12:25 (recess) I am offering Extra Help in my room. I am also available during my two duties - Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the library at recess. I encourage student to approach me to arrange for additional help outside of these designated times.

In Mathematics: Last week, students had a period each day to work on their flip books. Some students may not have completed this during class time, but they are reminded that it is due at the beginning of class on Monday (April 16th). This week, students will finally begin the last section in the strand on Shape and Space (SS3) that looks at perpendicular and parallel lines as well as perpendicular and angle bisectors. We will be using hands-on tools to deepen our understanding, as well as a small assignment so students can apply and demonstrate their knowledge. Please bring in a ruler, compass (from a math geometry set) and protractor.

In Science: I hope the students who were able to make ice cream, thoroughly enjoyed the lab. I’d say it was a huge success! Almost every student had soft-serve ice cream by the end of the lab.

A reminder to those students who did not complete and submit their Concentrations Labs, it is now overdue. Please submit your work directly to me in class. This week we will begin the Unit on Heat. This Unit will veer from Mrs. Lingley’s Wikispace quite a bit, but I will regularly be posting under the Homework Blog (Mrs. Browne) as well as these weekly emails to keep parents updated. There is homework in their first science class.

In Entrepreneurship: We welcomed guest speaker, Sally Ng, CEO of DigiLearn and The Triple Effect, who came in to talk to us about starting up a business. She offered up some sage advice. Now, we will be returning to a focus on production and marketing so that students are prepared to begin selling their products.

As always, this information and supporting documents are made available on my Homework Blog (find me, Mrs. Browne, under Teacher Pages on the Bliss Carman website) and on Mrs. Lingley’s Wikispace (link below). Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
