Upcoming Dates to Remember:

• June 13th ~ Teddy Bear Picnic: Bring a stuffie and a blanket/towel!  We will be providing pizza for lunch

• June 20th ~ Family Picnic (Rain date, June 22)

• June 22nd ~ BPS Talent show (3-5 students performing)

• June 23rd ~ Last day of school.  ½ day for students.

This Week:

Take Home Books: We won’t be sending take home books the next 2 weeks.  Take a look around at home and see if there are any books that need to be returned to the school.

Teddy Bear Picnic: Bring a stuffy and a blanket or a towel.  We will be providing pizza and juice boxes for lunch.  If your child does not like pizza, please send them a lunch.  If your child is getting hot lunch, we will send pizza home for supper.

Student Readers: I have been contacting parents to let them know when their child will present their book.  They may read a take home book (keep this at home and keep practicing until they present) or a book from home that they are comfortable with.

Literacy

Sight Words:

• We are reviewing sight words until the end of the year.  Students have been completing sight word assessments.

• We have learned: me, I, it, like, the, is, in, can, was, and, to, play, a, that, at, see, he, my, you, said, went, had, go, love, all, here, we, with, be, or, for, good, will, am, has, did, she, of, look, as, are, very, have, put, day your

Reading Strategies:

• Eagle Eye: He has really good eyesight and reminds us that we need to look at the pictures for clues about what the words might say.

• Lips the Fish: This week we will learn about Lips the Fish.  Fish have great lips! Lips the Fish reminds us that we need to get our lips ready to say the beginning sound of a word.  We often combine Eagle Eye and Lips the Fish.

• Stretchy Snake: Slowly stretch each letter sound to make the word

• Chunky Monkey: Look for chunks you know inside of words (sing, flat, split)

• Skippy Frog: Skip the word, read to the end of the sentence for clues, hap back and read again.

Writing:

• We have completed an independent writing piece for June.

• We will participate in reading responses.

Math

• We are working on number sense skills with our Math Lead, Ms. Thomas, to prepare us for grade 1.

• This week we will focus on:

• Making 5 & Making 10 (Part, part, whole)

• Subitizing: We will subitize dice, ten frames, dominoes, etc and will begin to work with numbers above 10.​
