Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss
We will celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday this week. His official birthday is Wednesday, March 01. However, we will be busy celebrating the 100 Day of School.
Tuesday, February 28 we will be reading Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss. We will do many activities centered around this book. Students are asked to wear crazy socks on Tuesday
 100th Day
On Wednesday, March 01 we will celebrate being in Kindergarten for 100 Days! It is hard to believe we have been in school for 100 Days! Time certainly goes by quickly!
On Wednesday we will do many activities centered around the number 100. We will be doing Math, Literacy activities involving Day 100. We will make a 100 Day Mix consisting of 10 foods ( cheerios, marshmallows, pretzels, raisins, cranberries, M&M’s, Fish Crackers , Gummy Fish and ?). This will be snack for Wednesday. Students do not have to take anything they do not like. Please feel free to send along an extra snack.
I realize this is not much notice but…if students would like to gather in 100 of something and bring to school on Wednesday they are more than welcome to. They do not have to. If your child decides to bring in 100 of something please ensure whatever it is can fit in a baggie. Here are some examples; 100 paperclips, 100 pom poms, 100 buttons, 100 marshmallows, 100 pieces of cereal, 100 pieces of lego. Etc.

 Consonant Diagraphs
We have finished the Jolly Phonics sounds for the letters in the alphabet. It is important that students continue to review all the letters and their Jolly Phonics sounds. We will review every now and then during class time but it is important to do this at home.
We have started to learn about Consonant Diagraphs. Consonant Diagraphs are when 2 consonants come together but only make one sound. So far we have learned about sh, ch. This week we will learn about th. We refer to sh, th, ch as the H Brothers.

Home Reading
This week your child will bring home 2 Home Reading Books. Please remind your child to use the Beanie Baby Strategies we have learned so far to help decode unknown words. We have leaned Eagle Eyes, LIPS the Fish and Stretchy Snake. I ams ending home a paper with the Beanie Baby Strategies are described. Please have this paper out when your child is doing Home Reading and remind him/her to use the Beanie Baby Strategies to decode unknown words.
 Writing
This week we are working on finishing the pieces of writing we start. Many students are spending way too long on illustrations so they do not get to write a sentence, many students spend too much time colouring and do not have time to write a sentence. This week I will be allowing students a set amount to time to work on the various components of an appropriate piece of writing. Students will be given 6 minutes to draw illustration, 3 minutes to label, 10 minutes to write a sentence and 10 minutes to colour and work on anything that did not get done during the given time. This assist students in completing a piece of writing every day or every two days
 Me Bags
Several students have presented their Me Bags. I am pleased to say they have done a great job! Om Monday I wills ending home 3 more Me Bags. It will be indicated on the bag what day the student is presenting. This is to develop oral language, asking and responding to questions, expressing thoughts and ideas. It is important that each student spend time preparing for their Me Bag presentation. Take time to think about what is going to be put in Me Bag, think of clues to share with the class and be able to tell why each item was selected.
Math
In Math we continue to practice counting forward to 10 and backward from ten. Counting on from a given number between 1 and 10, what number comes before and after a given number between one and ten.
We have started to learn about part- part - whole  in preparation for beginning addition. What two number combinations can be used to make a number between one and ten?

Please Note
