February is shaping up to be a busy month! Lots of exciting things happening!

 

Reminders

    Literacy

    Jolly Phonics: We are finished elarning the sound that every letter in the Alphabet makes. However, we will be using our letter sound knowledge throughout the year. If your child struggles with the sound every letter makes using Jolly Phonics please continue to practice Jolly Phonics at home. Letter sound knowledge is the basis for learning to read.

    This week we will adding had, go to our Word Wall.

    Beanie Baby Strategies

    This week we will continue to practice using Eagle Eyes and LIPS the Fish to decode unknow words.

    CVC Words

    This week we will continue to practice decoding cvc words using our knowledge of the sound letters make as learned in Jolly Phonics.

    Home Reading

    Students will bring home 2 new Home Reading Books.  One book will be a paper book. Students should ahve read this book a couple of times at school. They are to read this book to a parent. Please ensure they use their pointer finger to track where they are reading. Their finger should be under the word they are reading. Otherwise he/she may have memorized the story and not looking at the words they read.

    The second book will be an unfamiliar book. It is imrtant to read at elast one of the books that has been sent home on anightly basis.

    Writing

    This week in writing students will be producing a Demand Piece of Writing / Show What You Know. Students will be expected to produce an illustration portraying their story, label the illustartion and colour the illustration. The second day students will be expected to add a sentence about their illustration. The third day students will be given time to finish their demand piece.

    I  will be correcting Demand Writing Pieces using a Rubric that is appropriate for this point in Kinderagrten. Demand Writing pieces will be sent home later this week. Please sign and return

     

    YYW

    This week in YYW we will learn about Goal Setting. Students will be setting academic and personal goals. We will also learn about Ground Hog Day and Chinese New Year,

    Math 

    Students will continue practicing counting to 10 forward and backward. Identifying a numbers that comes before and We will elarn about counting on from a given number. If asked to count on from 3 students are expected to start counting at 3 and count to 10.

    We will continue to represent numbers using a Ten Frame.

    Students should continue to practice counting to 10 forward and backward, identifying a numbe that comes before a given number and after a given number, counting on from a given number between 1 - 10.
