Sir James Dunn Academy participates in the Premier's Active School Challenge

At Sir James Dunn Academy we are very proud to be selected to participate in the Premier’s Active at School Challenge. New Brunswick is the first province to embark on this journey with Canadian Tire by launching the Premier’s Challenge, Active at School of one hour a day of quality physical education and physical activity.

The initiative commenced on April 28th and will run until May 30th, 2014.  To participate in the Premier’s Active School Challenge we had to commit to providing one hour of physical activity to our students who are in grade 6 to 10.

To support this challenge, Canadian Tire is providing sport and physical activity equipment to schools that were selected. To help us get this challenge underway, our school was provided with $2000.00 to purchase new sporting goods.  We purchased a class set of tennis racquets, lacrosse sticks and a variety of fitness equipment.

Our goal during this initiative was to introduce our student’s to a non-traditional sporting experience. Para NB provided our schools with 8 in-line sledges to simulate sledge hockey and students have been introduced to tennis and lacrosse. We also have many students participating in the couch to 5km challenge. It is great to see so many students active each day.

We are very thankful to the Premier’s Office, the Canadian Tire Corporation and the EECD for their support.
