Important Notice About Upcoming Educational Event
August 7th to September 20th

Connecting Communities through Public Art

The Sculpture Saint John 2014 public event will take place beside Market Square in Downtown Saint John.
Eight Internationally renowned stone sculptors and 6 New Brunswick Interns will be creating huge contemporary sculptures in this space, which will be open to the public on a daily basis.

The first Saint John Sculpture event was held in 2012 and drew over 35,000 visitors from local, regional, national and international destinations.
People from all walks of life came several times to watch the progress of the sculptures being made, and in the end to celebrate their completion and installation in six local communities.

The Saint John Sculpture events are educationally significant because:

·         They increase the understanding and appreciation of public monuments and sculptures on a historical, community and educational level.
·         People’s notions of stone sculpture and art in general are transformed by witnessing the process involved in creating works of art.
·         Interacting with the artists at work provides an invaluable learning opportunity for both teachers and students.
·         Educators emphasize the amazing art making skills, positive community development through public art and the civic pride that the various communities experience when their sculptures are installed after the event.

Teachers are invited to bring their students to this year’s event. The Sculpture Saint John 2014 education committee is committed to supporting schools that wish to visit the site to learn about public art, meet the artists and see the process of making stone sculptures.
