Description:
The Education
Support Teacher-English Additional Language (EST-EAL) will be a school-based
position working closely with the EAL district team to support language
learners with EAL instruction. In
collaboration with the schools Education Support Services Team (ESST), the
EST-EAL will use the Newcomer Support and Transition Plan (NSTP) to select
strategies that support students in the areas of socio-cultural and
environmental transition, and language and academic development.
The
successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of supporting
English Language Learners and must be able to work with a minimum of
supervision and have strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Areas of Responsibility
- Support the development, improvement and use of
Newcomer Support and Transition Plans
- Provide, as required, an active role in
curricular and instructional planning, and decision making with classroom
teachers and related services personnel, with the goal of ensuring
instruction and assessment practices support the success of all learners
- Use
the Newcomer Support and Transition Plan (NSTP) to select strategies that
support students and work collaboratively in the school environment to
support classroom teachers in understanding and implementing the
strategies noted in the NSTP
- Co-plan
and co-teach with classroom teachers focusing on targeting the goals in
the NSTP
- Collaborate with any tutors in the building
- Work
collaboratively with EAL tutors to ensure use of My Language Learning
Journeys and Language Learner Portfolios
- Assist
with student assessment (e.g. intake and year end)
- Facilitate professional development opportunities
for school-based staff
- Use data to inform and monitor practice
- Establish
and maintain a collection of materials and resources relevant to learners
working on English Language acquisition and promoting culturally inclusive
practices
- Participate
in district level meetings/training/professional learning
- Other
duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
- A valid New Brunswick Teachers Certificate
- Current Professional Learning in Teaching English
as an Additional Language, and/or Culturally and Linguistically Inclusive
Schools and/or evidence of experience in EAL teaching (last three (3)
years)
- Minimum five (5) years classroom teaching
experience at the K-12 level, or equivalent (e.g., teaching English
Language Learners; teaching experience outside the New Brunswick public
school system)
- Leadership experience in facilitating
professional learning and/or leading initiatives
- Effective communication, administrative,
organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Preference will be given to B Contract teachers
with Anglophone School District South
These qualifications must
be clearly documented in a resume

of the NB Teacher’s Certificate
