November 26, 2020

Hello, Belleisle Regional High School Families, I wanted to reach out to you as I understand how confusing and stressful moving to the Orange Phase must be for you and your child (ren). The staff at BRHS are living these same feelings, right a long with you. Moving to the Orange Phase has created additional challenges for all of us as we are all in this together. We also understand that to keep everyone safe and to ensure that COVID 19 does not darken our doors we have to stick together and follow Public Health’s policies. They are working as hard as they can to keep everyone safe.

I want you to know that we have done everything we possible can to make BRHS a safe place for your student (s) to come every day. We are open and unless you have been advised by Public Health or your primary care giver that your child must self-isolate, we encourage you to send your child to school. We have enhanced safety measures in place and learning is continuing face to face. Children and young people look to adults to guide them on how to react to concerning and stressful events. Families are encouraged to talk to their children about their anxieties and remind them to treat one another with kindness and respect, in person and on social media.

BRHS staff recognize that some of you may not feel comfortable sending your child (ren) to school during the Orange phase. Currently, however, there is no expectations at grades 6-8 for teachers to provide home learning materials or to meet on Teams with students who remain at home. There may be some teachers who take this on, but it is not expected of them. Those who have been informed by Public Health that they must self-isolate will receive learning materials and instruction from their teachers once the school has been notified.

At the high school level, teachers are continuing to post learning materials on Teams, however, we encourage students to attend classes in person to receive direct instruction from their teachers. It is proven that Face to Face is the best delivery model.

For those of you who have chosen to keep your child (ren) home at this time, ASD-S is making available the Home Learning site, which was developed this past spring during the provincial school closure. This site provides families with activities and ideas to support learning at home. We encourage you to also check with your child’s teachers as they may be posting homework and assignments on their Teams site.

Thank you for supporting your children and the staff of BRHS as we work together to ensure our students continue to receive a safe and high-quality education.

Micheal Chaisson

Principal of the “best school in the world, with the best students in the world, being taught by the best teachers in the world”
