Week of January 7 - 11, 2019

Holy Smokes! It's already the new year! I seriously cannot believe we have made it through 72 days of school and we are now in 2019. I tried to post over the holidays from my phone but, well, that didn't work very well. So I hope that your break was as wonderful as it could be and that you were able to spend lots of quality time with your families. The children were sooo excited to tell me what they got for Christmas this morning. The excitement is infectious!

We had an easy start back this morning with lots of stories and some math games. Music this afternoon (which they love) and purposeful play time. Tomorrow I will introduce our new WW words - going, too, little, with, was. The words are getting a little longer and a little more difficult but they are learning right along with it.

In writing, we are working on adding some more details to our stories. For Kindergarten, that means we are adding some words to our stories (using beginning sounds and spelling words that we know). For grade 1, that means we are adding some more sentences.

In math, we are working on counting backwards (from 10 for Kindergarten and from 50 for grade 1).

A song we played today to practice counting backwards was this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6a2W8UQP5w The children loved it!

I will be sending books home tomorrow for you and your child to read together. Please keep them at home all week and return them at the end of the week, in the bag. The children will replace them for the following week. Thank you for spending this very important time together and showing them the importance of reading.

Have a wonderful week!
