Welcome to the school year of 2018-2019! We have had a great first week back. We have practiced a fire drill, held a whole school assembly, visited our new Makerspace room, met new friends, and got caught up with old friends. The students have all settled in nicely and we are looking forward to a great year of learning!
A few reminders:
Students Fees- Reminder that student fees are due. The cost this year is $45. This can be paid online or at school.
Forms Sent Home- Please complete any forms that were sent home at the beginning of the week and return them to school as soon as possible.
Hot lunch Orders- Reminder that hot lunch orders are due this Thursday, September 13. Our hot lunch program is offered Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from two providers. Tuesdays and Fridays will be from 'Tots'n'Taters' where students will be able to order chicken wraps, roasted chicken and pasta, taco and rice, and a chef's salad. This menu will vary each month with many healthy meal options. On Thursdays we will be ordering from Great Canadian Bagel. They will be offering a variety of bagel sandwiches and a fruit cup or orange slices. Both of these local companies worked with us to meet the requirements of the change to policy 711.
Parent Welcome Night- On Wednesday, September 12th at 6:00pm we will be having our Parent Welcome Night. This is an opportunity for parents to come visit your child's classroom, meet their teacher, and learn about what your child will be learning about this year. We will begin the night in the gymnasium with all parents and then move to student classrooms. We will be welcoming parents to join our PSSC and our Home and School. We will share with you during the parent meeting what these wonderful school support groups do and how you can help out.
Recess/Weather- We have had wonderful weather to start the school, but we know the rain/cold is on the way. Please be sure that your child is dressed for the weather. We will go outside during recess time as much as possible, unless the weather does not permit (heavy rain, cold temperatures). This means if it is drizzling, windy, snowing, etc. we will be outside getting fresh air and free time. Please make sure your child comes prepared to be outside for the weather- coats, rain boots, hats, mitts, etc. It is also a good idea (no matter what grade) to have a change of clothes in your child's bookbag or left in the classroom.

Upcoming Dates:
September 25th- Sustainability Study Meeting #1 @MAS 6:30pm. Estey Art Program begins afterschool 3:00-4:30pm.
September 27th- Terry Fox Walk. Asking students to make a $2 donation.
September 28th- Orange Shirt day to honor the children that attended Indian Residential schools.
